The Opportunity
The 8th grade math teacher at the Cambridge Street Upper School will teach four sections of grade 8 math. The teacher will collaborate with the 8th grade team and will facilitate an advisory for a small group of students. The Grade 6 Math teacher reports to the Head of the Upper School and works closely with the building Math Coach and district Math department.
The CSUS Grade 8 Math teacher is responsible for attending various meetings including Math department meetings and grade level team meetings; keeping accurate records and communicating with caregivers on a regular basis throughout the year, and performing other duties as requested by the Head of School.
The Cambridge Street Upper School is an innovative public middle school in the Cambridge Public School District. Duties
The grade 8 math teacher will be responsible for implementing differentiated, innovative instruction to a diverse group of student learners. The teacher should have an appreciation and awareness of the unique developmental needs of middle school students as well as a conviction that all students can master complex math concepts. The teacher will work closely with the grade 8 teaching team, whole school teams of faculty including special educators, instructional coaches, and paraprofessional aides, as well as collaborate with colleagues across the district. The teacher will incorporate a variety of assessment strategies including district wide exams and formative assessments in order to inform and modify instruction as well as target interventions and enrichment needs.
Preferred candidates will have experience in the use of technology to enhance and differentiate lessons. Additionally, the teacher will recognize the importance of integrating social learning into his/her math class and advisory. The teacher will partner with families to include them in students' learning and development. As a professional, the teacher will be fully committed to continuous learning, improving, reflecting and working together with colleagues to ensure that all students achieve at high levels.

Key Responsibilities
- Knowledge about and the ability to implement the Massachusetts curriculum and the Common Core Mathematics standards/
- Plan effective instruction and use appropriate instructional and questioning techniques.
- Assess student learning; monitor students' understanding of the curriculum and adjust instruction appropriately.
- Create a positive environment for student learning and engagement.
- Use technology to increase student learning and interest.
- Maintain appropriate standards of behavior, mutual respect and safety.
- Communicate learning goals and high expectations to all students; strive to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning.
- Implement district-wide common units and assessments.
- Other duties as assigned.
As the incoming Math Teacher, you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university; Master's Degree preferred.
- Experience working with a diverse population of secondary school students is preferable.
- Ability to think creatively and constructively about the math program and curriculum.
- Experience using multiple teaching strategies, including ones to enhance student reasoning and elicit mathematical thinking for all students.
- Willingness to collaborate with colleagues.
- Required Massachusetts Licensure: Mathematics grades 5-8
- Experience with the Illustrative Mathematics curriculum and/or another inquiry-based curriculum
