Job Summary

The Patient Safety Officer (PSO) is a vital member of the healthcare team, dedicated to ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and care quality within the hospital. This role involves developing, implementing, and monitoring patient safety programs, policies, and procedures aimed at reducing medical errors and adverse events.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Develop and Implement Safety Protocols : Design and enforce patient safety protocols and guidelines to minimize risks and improve overall patient care.
Monitor and Analyze Data : Collect, analyze, and report on patient safety data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
Conduct Training and Education : Provide training and education to healthcare staff on patient safety practices and protocols to ensure compliance and awareness.
Investigate Incidents : Lead investigations into patient safety incidents, identify root causes, and develop corrective action plans to prevent future occurrences.
Collaborate with Healthcare Teams : Work closely with medical, nursing, and administrative staff to promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
Regulatory Compliance : Ensure compliance with all relevant patient safety regulations, standards, and guidelines set forth by accrediting bodies and government agencies.
Patient Advocacy : Serve as an advocate for patients' safety, rights, and well-being, addressing concerns and complaints related to patient care.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Light Work : Frequent lifting and / or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 lbs. with a maximum lifting of 25 lbs.

Experience : Minimum of 5 years of clinical nursing experience, with at least 2 years in a patient safety or quality improvement role.

Certification : Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) or equivalent certification preferred.

Skills and Competencies : Proficiency in Microsoft Office to include Excel and ability to analyze data for Performance Improvement planning

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.

Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and quality.

Proficient in data analysis and reporting tools; Project management skill preferredLicensure / Certification : Active WVNursing License / Degree from accredited school of nursing

Education

Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) required; Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) or a related field is preferred.
