Role Overview
The Manager of Facilities Mechanical Services is responsible for overseeing the day to day management of maintenance, repair, and operation of mechanical systems across CCSD district facilities. This includes HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and other critical infrastructure. The most critical component of this role is to ensure compliance with safety regulations, optimize system performance, and lead a team of skilled trades' personnel to support the district's operational needs.

Role Overview
The Manager of Facilities Mechanical Services is responsible for overseeing the day to day management of maintenance, repair, and operation of mechanical systems across CCSD district facilities. The most critical component of this role is to ensure compliance with safety regulations, optimize system performance, and lead a team of skilled trades' personnel to support the district's operational needs.
Minimum Requirements
- High-school diploma or equivalent required
- 3 years of management experience, preferably in a multi-site facilities operation in a school district
- 5 years of maintenance work experience, preferably in school facilities
- Practical knowledge of and/or competence in various key areas of school maintenance
- Black Seal Boiler License required or to be obtained within 2 years of hire date
- A valid driver's license
- Required criminal history background check, physical, and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status
- Shall meet all physical requirements for the position and be able to perform all essential functions of this position
Major responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:
- Liaison between Facilities Department leadership and school leaders to ensure all maintenance needs are performed
- Supervise a team of skilled trades' personnel, including scheduling, training, and performance management.
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and other mechanical systems. Provide technical guidance and support to staff to enhance operational effectiveness
- Oversee mechanical system upgrades and capital improvement projects analyzing system performance data to identify areas for efficiency improvements and notifying Senior Manager and Director;
- Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Evaluate performance of all maintenance staff and make recommendations to the Senior Manager of maintenance.
- Direct all maintenance staff during inclement weather-related and other emergency operations
- Will be required to report on-site during inclement weather-related and other closings, emergencies during any part of the day or night, and on the weekends, as necessary
- Prepare Maintenance staff for summer work and special assignments
- Provide daily oral and monthly reports of general maintenance operations to the Senior Manager Maintenance, Facilities
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety and building codes.
- Ensure all work meets regulatory standards and district policies.
- Act as on-site evening contact person between administration, night maintenance staff, emergency personnel and community in all district, charter and renaissance schools
- Provide coverage in the event of absence of managers and Maintenance staff
- Facilities Manager, Maintenance Services - Night: supervise and manage a portion of night maintenance E mechanic staff
- Assist the Senior Director, Facilities in the Maintenance Division budget development that aligns with the district goals
- Supports projects and initiatives in other divisions and departments throughout CCSD on an as-needed basis
- Monitor the time records, attendance and other such personnel records as needed and submit this information to the Senior Manager, Facilities
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Senior Director or Senior Manager designee
- Computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) as well as School-Dude preferred
- Familiarity with New Jersey law and policy relevant to providing Maintenance services in school districts
- Strong leadership and team management abilities
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to analyze and solve complex technical problems.
- Knowledge of mechanical systems, building codes, and safety regulations.
- Assign all work orders to Maintenance staff through School-Dude
- Ensure all work order assignments are accomplished
- Develop and submit weekly reports on all work orders through School-Dude
- Conduct bi-weekly meetings with Maintenance staff
- Create reports and review with Senior Facilities Manager on all life safety systems including but not limited to fire alarms, elevators, intercoms, burglar alarms, emergency generators and sprinkler systems
- Recommend supplies and equipment for purchase and assist the Senior Facilities Manager in preparation of maintenance supplies and equipment specifications for bids
- Order and maintain all maintenance materials for day to day operations
- Perform all duties and assignments in a courteous and cooperative manner, while adhering to high standards of workmanship, cleanliness and safety
- Direct contact person for all maintenance vendors: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting and general repairs
- Available for all alarm calls, emergencies as required and responds according to established district procedure
- Exceptional customer service orientation, including ability to establish and maintain successful relationships with the educational community; maintains confidentially as required and appropriate
