Fleet Services Manager
Public Works – Fleet Maintenance
FLSA : Exempt
Expected Salary : $55,000 - $70,000
JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for managing the servicing, maintenance, and repair of county vehicles and equipment.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Coordinates and directs the servicing, maintenance, and repair of county vehicles to provide safe, reliable, and productive vehicles to county departments in a cost-effective and timely manner.
- Coordinates and works with outside vendors on vehicle repairs as needed.
- Processes accounts payable and invoices for completed work.
- Communicates with departments to explain policies and programs to ensure acceptance and compliance; responds to vehicle issues and requests for information.
- Establishes and administers programs, policies, and procedures, including preventive maintenance policies and schedules.
- Recruits, hires, trains, assigns, directs, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines personnel.
- Inspects maintenance work completed by staff for quality assurance.
- Evaluates work performed by contractors; resolves discrepancies and makes recommendations for contract modifications.
- Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to fleet operations and fueling services.
- Maintains vehicle warranty and other records; ensures that appropriate information is incorporated into ERP and fleet management system.
- Develops specifications for county fleet RFPs and bids; negotiates fleet-related contracts.
- Recommends the purchase of replacement vehicles.
- Ensures that the preventive maintenance program is cost-effective and complies with manufacturer specifications.
- Develops and manages annual capital budget; assists departments with budget information related to fleet functions.
- Analyzes data and reports on fleet inventory, fuel, and maintenance operations for cost-effectiveness; makes recommendations for fuel budget allocations.
- Ensures that all fleet assets are licensed and insured.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Public Works Director assigns work in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include EPA regulations, DOT regulations, manufacturer repair and maintenance manuals, and county and department policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.
