Job Summary:
The Harbormaster is the eyes and ears of the entire Resort Complex; he/she is often the first and last impression on our patrons. He/she must always represent the Resort in a friendly, knowledgeable, and professional manner. It is imperative that he/she is very familiar with the entire property, as well as the events and activities that are scheduled throughout the year. The Harbormaster should be able to intelligently answer any question regarding the Resort or Entertainment Complex, or at least be able to quickly find out the answer.
Marina Responsibility:
To manage and maintain the marina, as well as all other docking facilities at the Entertainment Complex. Management responsibilities include leasing marina slips, collecting revenue from tenants, maintenance & upkeep of the marina facilities, keeping adequate books and records, handling all day-to-day issues and activities at the Marina while keeping a professional report with all marina tenants, Resort owners, complex patrons, and fellow staff members. The Harbormaster shall make every effort to maximize profits of the marina by keeping a high occupancy level at all times by providing high quality service to marina tenants and patrons, and keeping all areas of the property, parking areas, docks and boardwalks clean and well maintained.
Gas Dock Responsibility:
The Harbormaster shall hire, train, and supervise all seasonal dock help while making every effort to minimize payroll. He/she shall make daily inspections of the fuel facility to insure a safe and leak free operation. It is the Harbormaster’s responsibility to see that all requirements set out by the DNR and Weights and Measures are met and that all annual testing and reporting is carried out. The Harbormaster must possess or have the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire, a Missouri PST Class A/B Operators’ Certificate.
The Harbormaster is responsible for the purchase of all fuel, coordinating the timely delivery based on inventory, and the documentation required for accurate accountability.
Overall, all docks, and any services provided from the docks, are the responsibility of the Harbormaster, including all fueling and pump out operations, as well as any services provided by others that are related to the marina operation. Boat & wave runner rentals, boat cleaning and detailing, etc. would fall under the supervision of the Harbormaster; additionally, all slip rentals for special events, concierge service to tenants, as well as any other revenue generating services related to the marina or customer docks are the responsibility of the Harbormaster.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Thorough understanding of operational and maintenance requirements of the marina facilities and equipment.
Basic understanding of nautical terminology and boating laws. Boating experience is very helpful.
Ability to remain tactful but firm in the enforcement of marina rules and regulations.
Proficient in Quick Books and Microsoft Excel and related software.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to access all areas of the marina and boardwalk.
Must be able to lift 15 pounds at all times.
Must be able to work in inclement weather and with usual hazards associated with marina.
Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
Must be able to hear and see alarms, dangers and hazards.
Must be a quick thinker and problem solver.
Must be physically fit and able to be on your feet for much of the time working.
