Primary Purpose:
The Operations Training and Competency Specialist serves as a key tactical leader within the Cameron LNG Training Department, acting as the primary liaison between Operations Staff and the Manager of Training & Competency. This role focuses on hands-on, field-based training and assessment assistance of operational personnel and will center on coordinating and implementing all aspects of the company’s Competency Management Program, including training, assessment, and assurance of Cameron LNG Operations Personnel against a defined industry standard of competence.
This position will be located in Hackberry, LA. Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC) will be required.
Primary Responsibilities: (Candidate is directly Accountable and/or Responsible for the following)
- Contribute to the general development and implementation of Competency Assessment & Assurance Programs.
- Establish competency benchmarks and appropriate development activities for each job role and position within the Operations areas of expertise, creating Competency-Based Job Profiles.
- Plan, schedule, and assist with technical assessments of Operations employees against established competence benchmarks, identifying competency gaps and recommended actions for closure.
- Facilitate employee development through the creation of Development Plans, evidence gathering, and day-to-day support throughout the employee development cycle.
- Manage the design and development of Training Packages, serving as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for operational processes, as well as deliver Training Programs (On/Off Job), coaching, and mentoring where appropriate.
- Collaborate with Mangers and Shift Supervisors to ensure competency-based training is aligned with operational needs.
Secondary Responsibilities: (Candidate shall provide Support and/or Consultation on the following)
- Assist with Above-Field Training where appropriate and/or qualified, supporting employees in the development of various leadership, management, and professional competencies associated with their job role.
- Perform basic records management, system administration, and content updates within the Cameron LNG Learning Management System (LMS) and Competency Assurance System (CAS), in addition to providing employee support when necessary.
- Participate in scheduled audits and reviews of competency development initiatives within the assigned discipline, ensuring quality assurance, continuous improvement, and overall consistency with other discipline areas.
- Conduct all assigned job duties and responsibilities in adherence to established Cameron LNG safety standards and organizational benchmarks or guidelines.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Associate’s Degree or higher in Operations Management, Engineering Technology, Industrial Engineering, or related field of study.
- Education or equivalent work experience in the petroleum or petrochemical industry, specifically gas processing and LNG liquefaction is a preferred asset, as is equivalent military experience.
Experience:
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience related to adult education or corporate learning, development initiatives such as competency development, coaching, or on-job training (OJT), and technical assessment in a related operations or engineering environment.
- Experience with various specialized IT Systems such as Learning/Knowledge/Competency Management Systems, Document Management, and O&M Management Systems is required.
Skills/ Knowledge/ Abilities:
- Knowledge and experience pertaining to regulatory standards and guidelines relevant to Process Operations in the petroleum and gas processing industries (i.e., PHMSA, OSHA, etc.).
- Knowledge of Instructional Systems Design pertaining to training and development initiatives, including program design, administration, learning strategies, and learning delivery techniques.
- Thorough understanding of various learning technologies and environments, conducive to employee development and the retention of technical skills and capabilities.
- Proven ability to execute impartial technical assessments based on the standards and criteria established as part of a specific Job Competence Profile.
- Proven verbal and written communication skills, as well as relationship management skills at all levels of an organization to be applied to optimize the results of various coaching, mentoring, and individual training initiatives.
- Proven personal and professional performance attributes such as time, task, and risk management, personal effectiveness, and high degrees of demonstrated integrity and ethics.
- Understanding of essential leadership attributes relevant to the learning and development process, such as critical thinking, decision making, emotional intelligence, and motivation.
Physical Requirements:
- The incumbent is expected to perform duties that involve standing, walking, climbing, sitting, kneeling, twisting, bending, pulling, pushing, carrying, lifting, and driving. Most activities involve movement of either the upper and lower body extremities or both, and the joints associated with these areas of the body.
- Must be able to don various types of safety and personal protective equipment to perform required work in potentially hazardous areas, such as confined space and working at heights.
- Must be able to climb to heights approximately 200 feet and must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able and willing to travel for various training or assessment initiatives as required.
The U.S Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Company have adopted regulations governing the control of drug use by persons in certain job classifications. This position is subject to the Federal Pipelines Regulation; and is stipulated in the 49 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) part 40 that requires drug and alcohol testing and must meet the testing standards.
