Primary Purpose:
The Process Safety Engineer is responsible for providing specialized engineering expertise and custodianship to develop, implement, and maintain the site's process safety management program. This role involves coordinating inter-departmental activities to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations. Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible for contributing to a set of key performance indicators (KPIs) through routine data gathering, analysis, and reporting to drive continuous improvement in process safety performance.
This position is located in Hackberry, Louisiana. Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC) is required.
Responsibilities:
- Process Safety Management:
- Develop, implement, and maintain the site’s safety management program.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
- Lead the identification, assessment, and management of process safety risks.
- Risk Analysis and Mitigation:
- Conduct and lead HAZOP (Hazard and Operability Study), LOPA (Layer of Protection Analysis), and other risk analysis tools.
- Develop and maintain policies and procedures for key risk control systems.
- Implement measures to mitigate identified risks and ensure safe operations.
- Incident Investigation and Learning:
- Lead investigations into process safety incidents and equipment reliability issues.
- Facilitate causal learning and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Document findings and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Inter-departmental Coordination:
- Coordinate with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to ensure process safety standards are met.
- Provide technical guidance and support to other departments.
- Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement across the facility.
- Performance Monitoring and Reporting:
- Develop and utilize process monitoring tools to track efficiency and safety performance.
- Gather, analyze, and report data related to key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Propose and implement optimization plans to enhance production and safety.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Prepare for and participate in regulatory audits and inspections.
- Training and Development:
- Provide training and awareness programs for employees and contractors on process safety.
- Stay updated with the latest industry trends and advancements in process safety.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers in process safety practices.

Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, Process Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 to years of experience in process safety design within petrochemical, refinery, or LNG facilities
- Experience in the LNG industry is highly preferred
- Proven track record in conducting HAZOP, LOPA, and other process hazard analysis (PHA) studies
Skills/ Knowledge/ Abilities:
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to lead and mentor junior engineers.
- In-depth knowledge of industry standards and regulations, such as OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, and international codes of practice in the LNG industry.
