DEPARTMENT: Health Information Management (HIM)
JOB TITLE: Coder III - Certified
SHIFT: 80 Hours Bi-Weekly, 1st Shift
JOB SUMMARY
We are looking for a professional who has a certification in medical coding that can assist us with coding medical documentation. To ensure success you need to make judicious decisions on which codes to assign in each instance, and function to a high level of accuracy.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
- Reviews and analyzes medical records and operative reports to accurately assign a procedure code (CPT or ICD-10-PCS) and diagnosis code (ICD-10-CM) according to CPT and ICD-10-CM coding guidelines.
- Reviews documentation for query opportunities to improve provider documentation.
- Maintains coding accuracy of 95% and productivity standards.
- Works in conjunction with the HIM Supervisor on follow-up and resolution of coding related denials.
Experience
- Two years of experience in any of the following: acute care/outpatient hospital coding, Physician Professional Coding, or equivalent experience.

- Coder III = Inpatients or observations, OP Surgeries or E/M Leveling, minor office procedures and 3 or more specialties
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Anatomy and Physiology and Medical Terminology Curriculum
Certifications Required or Preferred
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or equivalent
