POSITION DESCRIPTION :
The Department of Agriculture, Biology, and Health Sciences at Cameron University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in biology at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning in August 2025.
The area of expertise for this position is open as the department is interested in attracting broadly trained biologists in order to complement its existing faculty. However, areas of expertise that are of particular interest to the department include but are not limited to microbiology and immunology.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES :
Teaching duties will include introductory and advanced microbiology courses with laboratories, and additional lower-level and upper-level courses in the individual's area of expertise.
Faculty members at Cameron University have a 24-hour annual teaching load (12 hours per term) including laboratory instruction. Faculty members are expected to participate actively in academic advising, general education and program assessment, program improvement activities, departmental recruitment and retention efforts, departmental governance, and identified university activities.
Appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor requires possession of a Ph.D. or other appropriate terminal degree from a regionally accredited university in biology or in a related area. If not earned by the time of application, the degree must be conferred on or before August 1, 2025. Evidence of successful college-level teaching experience (1-2 years) is desired.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Ph.D. in Biology or related area or terminal degree in a related field; demonstrated successful higher education teaching experience; skill at using a classroom management system and ability to deliver instruction in a variety of formats including online and hybrid courses.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
Ph.D. in biology or in a closely related area with experience in microbiology; demonstrated successful higher education teaching experience including classroom and laboratory instruction, experience teaching and developing asynchronous (online) and / or hybrid classes and delivering instruction remotely when required.
DEPARTMENT DETAILS :
The department is one of the largest on campus and offers the B.S. in Agriculture degree with options in agribusiness management, agronomy, animal science and general agriculture, along with a B.S. in Biology with options in cell and molecular biology, organismal biology, and medical laboratory science. In addition, the department offers an A.S. in Allied Health Sciences, an A.A.S. in Radiologic Technology, and an A.A.S. in Respiratory Care. The department is housed in the Sciences Complex, which is a 90,000 ft2 facility opened in 1997 that provides classrooms, teaching laboratories, research space, and faculty offices. The department also oversees the operation of the Cameron University Farm, which includes dedicated facilities for instruction in animal science and plant science and greenhouses, along with maintenance and storage facilities. Two new teaching laboratories have been opened at the Cameron University campus in Duncan, OK and these provide laboratory space for teaching biology and chemistry courses that support the A.S. in Allied Health Sciences degree. The department embraces scholarship in all of its forms, including the scholarship of discovery, the scholarship of integration, the scholarship of application, and the scholarship of teaching. Development of a program of scholarly study that involves undergraduate students is especially valued. Service includes service and leadership to the department and the university, and service to the public or the profession.
