SUMMARY : The Senior Buyer / Planner is a strategic, hands-on leadership role responsible for driving effective production planning and procurement operations to meet customer demands and support business objectives. This position leads the development and execution of optimized production schedules, ensuring alignment between material availability, production capacity, and delivery commitments. The Senior Buyer / Planner will mentor and guide the existing Buyer / Planner, fostering growth and driving best practices in planning and supply chain management. Key priorities include cost efficiency, inventory optimization, risk mitigation, and proactive problem-solving to address real-time production and supply chain challenges. The role collaborates cross-functionally with Suppliers, Manufacturing, Engineering, Customer Service, and Quality Assurance teams to resolve inventory discrepancies, manage obsolete products, and support continuous improvement initiatives. This role is critical in balancing strategic planning with daily execution to achieve operational excellence.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Lead and execute production planning by analyzing forecast data, actual demand, capacity constraints, and inventory levels to create efficient, demand-driven production schedules.
- Own production execution by coordinating with manufacturing, engineering, and supply chain teams to prioritize, release, and monitor work orders, ensuring on-time delivery and optimal resource utilization.
- Proactively identify and mitigate production risks, including material shortages, capacity constraints, & workflow disruptions, by implementing contingency plans & adjusting schedules.
- Conduct weekly reviews of raw materials, components, and finished goods to ensure alignment with production demands and prevent stockouts.
- Optimize inventory levels to balance material availability with cost efficiency, supporting continuous production flow.
- Provide critical production updates during design reviews and production meetings, offering insights on material readiness and schedule adherence.
- Develop and deliver production planning reports and performance metrics to drive data-based decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and development support to the existing Buyer / Planner, fostering growth in production planning, procurement processes, and supply chain management.
- Lead by example in driving best practices for production planning and purchasing, ensuring alignment with operational goals and business objectives.
- Manage material requirements for production schedules, engineering modifications, product validations, and new product introductions, ensuring timely procurement and availability.
- Issue purchase requisitions and purchase orders to qualified suppliers, negotiating terms to secure quality materials at competitive costs.
- Monitor supplier performance and proactively resolve order fulfillment issues, escalating risks and proposing mitigation strategies to management and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to ensure material delivery aligns with production timelines, quality standards, and cost objectives.
- Support logistics planning to streamline material flow and improve inventory accuracy across the supply chain.
