Job Summary :
The Land Accounting Manager manages the organization’s land accounting function by planning, implementing, and evaluating processes and procedures in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). The Land Accounting Manager must be able to exercise independent skills and judgment.
Duties / Responsibilities :
This role supervises the Land Accountant.
Assist Land team to ensure appropriate documentation of all land entitlement and development expenditures and budgets are saved in SharePoint.
Lead monthly reviews with Land team to reconcile all land balances and development budgets. Ensure all lot cost assumptions are appropriate and documented.
Prepare soft cost budget analysis (property taxes, HOA, interest and overhead) and lot cost calculations.
Assist in developing a financial mindset amongst the land development managers to create accounting / financial / budget acumen.
Review and approve land invoices for payment processing.
Timely complete month end related tasks (, book journal entries for land purchases / sales).
Required Skills / Abilities :
Strong financial and accounting skills, as well as analytical skills.
Strong computer skills, including but not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
Strong written / oral communication, interpersonal skills with strong organizational skills.
Frequent interaction with other departments and divisions.
Friendly and welcoming demeanor with the ability to maintain professionalism and a strong customer-focused demeanor with demanding clientele.
Excellent time management skills, detail-orientation and ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills, along with advanced conflict resolution skills.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills and proficient in English. Must be able to articulate needs and convey information verbally and in writing effectively with employees, customers, supervisors, and co-workers throughout the organization.
Knowledge of management methods and sound employee relations techniques with an ability to connect to staff, troubleshoot problems and help teams collaborate, as necessary.

Must work 40 hours per week (during core business hours) with flexibility for longer hours as needed.

Education and Experience :
A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred or equivalent work experience.
Good working knowledge of GAAP and experience in homebuilding industry a plus
Minimum 4-5 years working in Finance / Accounting with some managerial experience
Combination of public accounting and industry experience (homebuilding) is a plus
