LABORATORY TECHNICIAN I

Position Summary

Performs laboratory testing of various customer supplied, quality control or round robin samples for purposes such as qualitative analysis and process control. Certifies that samples conform to specifications as per customer and / or industry requirements.

Minimum Requirements

Requires a H.S. Degree (or equivalent).

Must possess basic computer, math and science skills.

Must demonstrate ability to grasp new procedures quickly and be capable of working independently upon completion of training.

Must be able to distinguish color.

Must pass pulmonary test for respirator use.

Responsibilities

As instructed by the Laboratory Manager and Coordinator or as requested from the Operations Department and under the strict guidelines described in the quality manuals and ASTM / API procedures :

Analyzes crude and refined petroleum, petrochemical, and chemical products, as well as Quality Control samples to verify conformity to specifications.

Documents each test result and maintain neat, complete, and accurate records.

Prepares corresponding customer or Quality Control reports through Camin Cargo

Control’s computer system.

Performs Quality Assurance / Quality Control testing as required for each instrument.

Calibrates each instrument as needed and maintain in clean working condition.

Maintains and cleans laboratory instruments, equipment, and supplies.

Be available during non-working hours, weekends, and holidays as dictated by the

Laboratory Manager and / or Operations Department.

Fitness for Duty - Physical Demand

Workday may consist of 8-12 hours however this can vary day to day and shift to shift. Some of the retain work is performed outdoors, wearing full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and could include possible exposure to high and low temperatures for a prolonged duration of time. Laboratory work is normally performed indoors under climate-controlled conditions.

Weight Up to 45 lbs.- Duration / Day Up to 1 hour

Weight 5-8 lbs.- Duration / Day Up to 1 hour

Sitting

Weight 5-8 lbs. -Duration / Day Up to 6 hours

Driving

Weight N / A- Duration / Day Up to 6 hours
