Founded in 2000, Camino Nuevo Charter Academy students represent the neighborhood of MacArthur Park west of downtown Los Angeles, a community that is one of the most under-resourced and densely populated neighborhoods in Los Angeles. Currently, CNCA has six campuses that serve approximately 3,500 students from TK through 12th grade.

The Opportunity
Under the supervision of School Leadership, the Intervention Teacher (ELD) provides instructional services to ensure that English learner (EL) students, including immigrant children and youth, attain English language proficiency and meet the same challenging state academic standards that other students are expected to meet. Instruction provided must supplement state language instruction educational programs, and be designed to assist EL students in achieving their academic goals.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions

- Abide by and/or utilize the California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP)
- Increase the English language proficiency of English learners by providing an effective non-core language instruction educational program
- Improve the instruction and assessment of EL students
- Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles
- Recommend improvements to the instructional program for English learners by identifying, acquiring, and upgrading curricula, instructional materials, educational software, and assessment procedures
- Carry out highly focused, innovative, locally designed activities to expand or enhance existing language instruction educational programs and academic content instruction educational programs for EL students and Immigrant children and youth
- Develop and or participate in community participation programs, family literacy services, and parent and family outreach and training activities for English learners and their families
- Advise general education teachers on accommodations for English Language Learners
- Work cooperatively with other teachers to meet needs of individual student
- Attend and participate in all relevant training sessions, meetings and professional growth activities as requested and/or required
- Complete duty statements as requested to fulfill Title III requirements
- Respect confidential nature of pupil records and school reports
- Show patience, respect and compassion in working with students
- Other duties as assigned.

Applicants who possess the following skills will make the strongest candidates:

Valid California Single Subject Teaching Credential in the appropriate content/subject matter. Candidates who possess equivalent certification and/or license from another state must be in the process of transferring to CTC or have all necessary paperwork to do so within 14 calendar days.
- Physical Education
- CLAD/English Language Learner Authorization. Candidates who do not possess this must do so within one year.
- Demonstrated track record with English language learners
- Demonstrated ability to implement varied classroom instructional strategies
- Educational vision for and experience with low-income and /or minority students
