GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The goal for the Mental Health First Aid Outreach Worker is to increase awareness of MHFA training, increase the number of MHFA training sessions available, and increase the number of overall trainings completed. It is the responsibility of the Outreach Worker to ensure that all requirements listed in the HHSC Mental Health First Aid Contract are met, in addition to responsibilities outlined below. Work under the general supervision of the Children’s Mental Health Services Director, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement. This position will work closely with the Director to fulfill duties and contract requirements. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. The Outreach Worker is responsible for data tracking, state reporting, and teaching MHFA. Extensive travel throughout the service area is required along with some out-of-area travel, at least 25% travel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The MHFA Outreach Worker shall develop a coordinated regional plan for delivering and funding Youth MHFA training for school districts.
- Work with Education Service Centers (ESCs) in the local service area to ensure that all training data is collected and aggregated and reported to HHSC.
- Create a partnership with its associated ESCs wherein they are working together to increase the number of people trained in the agency’s local service area.
- Acquire MHFA Certification within 3 months of hire and maintain a certification in MHFA curriculum (Adult/Youth).
- Complete additional training in MHFA Modules.
- Ensure that all other trainers at the agency maintain such certifications.
- Maintain a contact list of trainers at the agency containing the MHFA courses on which they were trained and the dates they were certified to teach these courses.
- Demonstrate high ethical standards, trustworthiness, and personal integrity. Regular attendance, dependability, and promptness are required for the 8-5 workday or agreed upon hours 100% of the time, to ensure consistency and completeness of program’s processes.
- Professional Development - Successfully complete training required to maintain skill competency and cross training to ensure consistency across programming procedures. Complete continuing education as required by professional standards and the Center.
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
· Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major course work in a field relevant to social services (psychology, social work, special education, counseling).
· 4 Years work experience in a social services field or in the field of education.
· Experience and education may not be substituted for one another.
· Must have public speaking and training experience.
· Applicants must have a Texas driver’s license and be insurable through Camino Real Community Services.
PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
· (Preferred) Master’s Degree in Human Services field (Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, Marriage and Family or Social Work)
· (Preferred) Bilingual
· Current certification as an instructor for MHFA.
