Camino Real Community Services incorporates principles of trauma informed care, which includes cultural sensitivity in all areas of service delivery.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the general direction of the Crisis Team Lead, the MCOT Case Manager evaluates and assesses individuals with acute/severe problems related to substance abuse, mental or emotional problems, clients may be suicidal, depressed, psychotic, and/or potentially violent. Develops therapeutic interventions, treatment recommendations, dispositions and referral services to groups or individuals with acute, severe, or chronic problems related to emotional or mental crisis or substance abuse to assist in identifying, minimizing, or resolving problems and ensure safety. Works with the client’s family to assist them in understanding and dealing with the client’s problems. Monitors individual behavior and progress to ensure the disposition and referrals are appropriate, reports and documents observations of client behavior and progress.

Services will be provided in a variety of settings to include home, community, school, jails, hospitals, etc. Must be able to physically respond to activated Crisis Calls within 1 hour regardless of designated level of intensity, urgent ‘vs’ emergent. This position requires extensive local travel, on-call responsibility, the ability to work changing shifts to include evenings, some weekend coverage, have rotating days off, and be available to work overtime.

Attends meetings, seminars, and training sessions as required. Maintains various data used in the generation of reports, utilizes a computer to enter, store, and retrieve data, compiles and produces narrative reports, composes routine correspondence, disseminates information to others, reviews data to ensure accuracy, and forwards data to applicable personnel.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications to be eligible for the position:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with a major in psychology, social work, nursing, counseling, sociology, human growth and development, or a registered nurse.
  • Must meet TAC Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) qualifications.
  • Demonstrate ability to read, write and speak English and Spanish.
  • Must live within the designated service area to ensure rapid response time.

PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Prior experience at a behavioral health or community mental health center setting.
  • Knowledge of applicable mental health laws with regard to mental health warrants, emergency detentions, and outpatient commitments.
  • Prior knowledge of the principles, methods, techniques and practices of social work and chemical dependency, the functioning of mental health hospitals and/or out-patient mental health clinics and schools.
  • Prior knowledge and experience with trauma-informed clinical interventions for mental and emotional wellbeing.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to work independently, to organize work efficiently, and to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of individual needs/characteristics associated with mental illness.
  • Ability to develop productive relationships with individuals and family members that focus on individual specific outcomes.
  • Extensive skill in individual needs assessment and the ability to respond to the changing needs of the individual and the ability to work in a crisis.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with other professionals, individuals and groups, exercise tact, initiative, and good judgment when dealing with people, prepare reports and recommendations for administrative use.
  • Knowledge of local community resources, how to access those services and use them effectively.
  • Ability to advocate effectively for an individual in the target population.
  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, techniques and practices of social work and chemical dependency, the functioning of mental health hospitals and/or out-patient mental health clinics and schools.
  • Ability to relate to clients with a variety of age, sex, economic, educational, and professional background.
  • Ability to apply and integrate theory, knowledge, values, and practices of social work and/or counseling profession.
  • Ability to engage in problem solving processes.
  • Ability to understand, articulate and apply the dynamics of chemical abuse and dependency.
  • Demonstrate skills in the use of personal computers to record client data, written documentation of client assessments and interventions, correspondence, or reports.
  • Ability to interpret and assess data.
  • Working knowledge of the DSM-IV.
