GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Camino Real Community Services Peer Support Program is looking to hire a Peer Provider to be a part of a Community Response Team to facilitate peer support in the Crisis Services Division. Duties include leading/facilitating activities that promote socialization, recovery, wellness, self-advocacy, development of natural support, and maintenance of community living skills. Must be able to complete the required daily documentation. Must be willing to attend weeklong training to become a Certified Peer Specialist. May include some evenings and weekends to optimize ability to work with peers.
Implement peer support services for adults with mental illness. Provides support, information, referral, follow-up, and technical assistance to consumers and/or their families. Develops and maintains data collection system indicating the number of referrals, resources/services, unmet needs, and barriers to obtaining services for all interested parties. Help individuals identify and acknowledge networks of support and provide them with the support and skills necessary to care for themselves. May provide peer mentoring, informal support and information and referral to resources, and helps others navigate through the process of education, mental health, and other social service systems. Peer specialists are fully integrated team members who provide highly individualized services in the community and promote client self-determination and decision-making. Peer providers also provide essential expertise and consultation to the entire team to promote a culture in which each client’s point of view and preferences are recognized, understood, respected, and integrated into treatment, rehabilitation, and community self-help activities. Responsible for documenting all services provision as agency requires. This position requires community travel and a flexible work schedule to include some late hours and Saturday work. Works under the direction of the Crisis Services Director.
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications to be eligible for the position:
· High school diploma or GED.
· A person who is or has been a recipient of mental health services for persistent and severe mental illness for at least one year.
· Must have a valid Texas driver’s license or identification card.
· Must be able to get to the job site each day.
PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS
· Fluent in Spanish/English.
· Resident of Camino Real Community Services area.
· Reliable transportation with Texas Liability Insurance.
