What are the responsibilities and job description for the Registered Nurse at Maine Summer Camp (Seasonal) position at Camp Arcadia?
Camp Arcadia is a summer camp for girls in Casco, Maine. Founded in 1916, our mission is to make the world better and more beautiful because you have been in it.
Camp Arcadia is searching for skilled Nurses to join our Healthcare Center this summer from June 2025-August 2025. Each summer, Camp Arcadia puts together a team of health care professionals to provide care and support to our camp community. Registered nurses in Maine are highly encouraged to apply, though we are open to reviewing candidates with related experience such as EMT’s and LPN’s.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individualized health care and support to all campers
- Prepare the Wellness Center for camp, including reviewing medical forms, preparing first aid kits, and setting up key systems for the summer
- Participate in the training of staff on all medical services at camp, including but not limited to standing orders, clinic hours, specific camper health or social needs, health care or emergency procedures, protocols for contacting parents
- Provide daily screening, medication distribution, injury support, trip health kits, and recordkeeping to support the ongoing running of the Healthcare Center
- Provide guidance to camp staff as they navigate any personal health or medical needs
- Communicate professionally and empathetically across a variety of camp stakeholders, including daily communications with Directors and frequent interactions with counselor staff, camp administration, and parents
- Schedule doctor’s appointments and/or transport campers or staff as needed to external health care centers in service to ensuring proper treatment for all is secured
- Participate as needed in inspections or ongoing documentation related to the health care center and safety in service to ACA and state compliance
- Cover on-call Wellness Center shifts overnight as needed
- Contribute actively and enthusiastically to our larger camp community, attending community meals, meetings, and assemblies and spending time with campers and staff outside of the health care center

- Leadership training and camp orientation to familiarize yourself with camp culture and how to provide support at camp
What You Bring
- Current licensure in nursing and ability to obtain license to practice in Maine
- Experience working in a health care setting, providing care directly to individuals (experience with children preferred) and an understanding of the administrative aspects of a healthcare facility
- First Aid/CPR certification and a valid Driver’s License (with a clean driving record)
- A positive, flexible, and patient approach to collaborating with others, multi-tasking, and providing care
- Strong communication skills in conversation and in writing
- Experience working in non-hospital or clinical settings preferred. Summer camp, school, and other non-traditional experiences are encouraged!
- An understanding of HIPAA laws and a willingness to understand how they exist in a camp setting
All members of the Wellness Center team must have the ability to:
- Assist campers and staff by lifting or kneeling
- Read and follow directions on medication labels, health forms, physician orders and parent letters/emails
- Move around camp property quickly and multiple times a day on uneven terrain and/or up and down a hill
- Meet emergent needs with endurance
- Safely drive off-camp to health providers, physicians, or emergency treatment locations
