FOOD SERVICE DIRECTOR, CAMP ARROWHEAD

JOB SUMMARY
This is a year-round, full-time, salaried, non-exempt position serving summer camp and late summer through spring conferencing, retreat groups, special events. The Food Service Director is responsible for the overall planning, preparation and service of nutritious and appealing meals for campers, retreat guests and staff. This includes managing all aspects of our new, state-of-the-art kitchen, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and American Camp Association standards, training and supervising kitchen staff, and maintaining a positive and efficient work environment. This role requires a hands-on individual with strong leadership skills. As Food Service Director, you will be expected to exemplify the high moral and behavioral standards of Camp Arrowhead and of the Episcopal Church, Diocese of Delaware.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Plan and create menus for campers, staff and clients which are wholesome and balanced, well received and meet a wide variety of dietary needs. Oversee and participate in the preparation and service of meals, ensuring high quality, proper portion control and timely delivery.
· Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate seasonal kitchen staff including cooks, kitchen assistants and dishwashers, including young, seasonal staff. Create and maintain a positive and productive work environment.
· Manage food and supply inventory, including ordering, receiving, storing and rotating stock. Minimize waste and ensure efficient use of resources. Maintain accurate records of food purchases, inventory, meal counts and other relevant data.
· Develop and manage the food service budget, controlling costs and maximizing value.
· Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations, including food handling, sanitation, and kitchen safety procedures. Maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment.
· Oversee the maintenance and repair of dining hall and kitchen equipment, reporting any issues promptly to the Property Manager.
· Interact with campers, parents, retreat guests, and staff to gather feedback and address any concerns regarding food service, dietary needs, and restrictions.
· Manage the backroom service for the summer cook-out program.
· Plan and execute food service for special events as needed.
· Work collaboratively with staff to ensure smooth operations.
· Plant and maintain summer garden.
· Learn to operate current registration software (Camp Brain), phone system, AV equipment, building specific HVAC and lighting.
· As able, actively participate in year-round camp activities such as benefits, parades, dinners and social events.
· Share in on-call retreat and event duties with administrative staff.
· Participate in all team and individual support meetings as required by the Executive Director.
· Participate in continued education & certification opportunities.
· Assist the Facilities Manager with general camp maintenance when time permits.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Proven experience as a Food Service Director, preferably in a camp, retreat center or similar setting.
· Proficient in the management of a commercial kitchen feeding up to 350 persons 3 meals per day on time.
· Strong knowledge of food preparation, menu planning and dietary restrictions.
· Experience managing kitchen staff and budgets.
· Familiarity with health and safety regulations related to food service.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite.
· Excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
· Able to work independently and as part of a team.
· Able to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks effectively.
· Possess ServSafe Food Manager and TIPS Certification or willingness to obtain.
· A passion for excellent customer service.
· Stamina and flexibility to work long days, especially during summer camp season.
· Live within commuting distance of camp with the ability to work a flexible schedule based on and around facility use, including many weekends.
· Able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
· Satisfactory completion of criminal background check & driving record.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Experience working with youth & young adults
· Experience working at a summer camp
· Culinary training or degree

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: Exempt position - $45,000 - $55,000 per year, DOE
