Male Summer Camp Counselor
Location: Northern California (onsite housing provided)
Position Type: Full-time, seasonal

-Nonviolent Communication for fostering empathy and resolving conflicts
-Flat Hierarchy and Sociocracy to support decision-making and community-building
-Emotional Intelligence and Humanistic Behavior Management philosophies to apply internally and with others
-Group facilitation and guiding children through deep, emotional experiences
- 9 weeks of closely supported experiential education in applying those learned skills
- 3 Certifications in first aid, CPR, and lifeguarding (optional) - ~$400 value, included
- Numerous opportunities for leadership advancement - if desired, receive training in the summer for a program director role the following summer (various domains)

Staff routinely comment that Camp Augusta changed their life - from their relationships (outside of camp too) to their career competence to their sense of self. Staff in education and psychology offer that their training at camp augmented and exceeded their training in school.
What You’ll Do as a Counselor:
After extensive training, you’ll be responsible for supporting a cabin of five campers, providing guidance and supervision throughout their time at camp. In a typical day, you might:
- Start the day in a wacky way with Special Wake-Ups.
- Teach a variety of clinics (you’ll choose from 150 options during training).
- Design and facilitate a unique Cabin Activity with your campers each day.
- Participate in themed Evening Programs, where you’ll play a character, run games, and bring magical experiences to life.
- Lead an activity rooted in childlike play - "Playstation".
- End the day with Evening Embers, a chance to reflect and build connections with your cabin.
- Offer two heart-felt gifts to each camper per session, including personalized wood cookies and thoughtful letters to parents.

Who We're Looking For:
We are seeking passionate, energetic, and committed male role models who are:
- Dedicated to compassionately empowering youth: You'll guide and counsel five campers at a time, fostering their growth in social, emotional, and leadership skills while modeling positive character traits.
- Emotionally and physically resilient: Working long hours (7:00 AM to 10:00 PM) for nine weeks, this role requires your full engagement in a dynamic camp environment, offering rewarding challenges that help you develop resilience, leadership, and adaptability.
- Creative and playful: Whether you're building magical worlds with your campers or coming up with exciting new activities, you thrive in a dynamic, fun, and imaginative environment.
- Community-oriented: Build lifelong friendships within a team that feels more like a family, sharing experiences that push you to grow together.
Minimum Requirements:
To apply, you must:
- Be at least 19 years old by June 1, 2025.
- Be available for the full camp season, from May 13 to August 9, 2025 (Please inquire if your availability is within a couple of days of these dates).
- Complete 5-8 hours per week of pre-camp onboarding work leading up to your arrival (this curriculum equates to a free university-level course in communication/facilitation).
- Be willing to get a COVID booster before arriving at camp.
- Experience, passion, and enjoyment working with kids - and some background with mentorship work - 3 months in a comparable setting with kids or 100 hours of mentorship.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A wide range of hobbies, passions, and life experiences that you’re excited to share with others.
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher, with a demonstrated passion for learning and growth.
