Unit Head Counselor – Senior Leadership and Supervisory
Camp Beech Cliff (CBC) is seeking senior-level seasonal staff for our premier traditional outdoor
education day camp. With 50 acres of woods bordering Acadia National Park and extensive
waterfront on Echo Lake, summers at CBC are all about having new experiences, making
lasting friendships, and exploring the great outdoors. Our ten program areas promote a balance
between the active and the creative. We take great pride in our accreditation with the American
Camp Association (ACA) which drives everything we do in terms of health and safety. Most
importantly we are known for our high quality staff and recommended by camper families!
Unit Head Counselor duties include (but not limited to):
- Assist in leading staff trainings and continued development;
- Supervise and support one of five age-based units (Starburst, Thunder, Lightning, Quasar, or
- Provide a physical presence of support for all group counselors within each unit;
- Respond to individual camper needs (i.e. behavioral, social/emotional, disciplinary);
- Respond to Individual Staff Needs (i.e. assisting with coverage, facilitating scheduled breaks,
- Provide coaching and formal staff evaluations for group counselors by unit;
- Support and communicate with administration and camper families when appropriate;
- Work with all staff to maintain overall quality of camper (ages 5-15 yrs) experience.
Considerations: Applicants should realize that the job of a camp counselor is challenging,
demanding, and requires a great deal of patience and understanding. Personal lifestyle sacrifices will
have to be made including disconnecting from daily use of digital technology during the camp day.
Sensitive and dynamic leadership is necessary to provide youngsters the opportunity to grow, learn
to positively relate to others, establish life-long values, and increase their appreciation of the natural
world. All staff must adhere to the health and safety laws set forth by the State of Maine Dept of
Human Services Youth Camps Division, and standards for accreditation with the American Camping
Association. Possible Housing. Weekly pay range: $725 - $800.
Minimum qualifications: At least 21 years of age, enthusiasm for kids, personal initiative, organized,
clear and honest communication skills, clean driving record, and ability to supervise. Availability June
1 – end of August. CPR/First Aid Certified
Preferred qualifications: Supervisor experience, BA Degree, and significant camp experience.
