POSITION SUMMARY:
(Part-Time Position)
The Camp Curtin YMCA is looking for enthusiastic camp counselors who will provide a safe, educational and nurturing environment for children enrolled in our Summer Camp programs at numerous locations in the Harrisburg area. Counselors will be responsible for supervising activities in which children can have fun make friends and learn new skills. We base our program on the four core values of the YMCA: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
We have shifts available between 7:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday-Friday. No weekends or holidays! Must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma/GED to apply.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Counselors will be responsible for supervising activities in which children can have fun make friends and learn new skills
- Ensure the health, safety and well-being of participants in the program, by providing appropriate supervision at all times; especially during field trips and swimming pool days
- Assist and interact with children during summer program activities and games
- Work cooperatively with program and school staff
- Promote an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment that embraces the diversity of all participants
- Serve as a positive role model for participants by understanding and communicating the YMCA’s core values
- Maintain accurate program documentation (attendance, sign in/out forms, behavior/incident/accident reports, as appropriate)
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with parents and guardians through regular communication about their child’s strengths and areas of growth
- Adhere to all Department of Health and Camp Curtin YMCA's standards, expectations, and regulations
- Actively participate in training sessions, designated meetings and special events
HOURS: 8 hours per day, Monday–Friday
SALARY: $13.00- $15.00/hour – FREE Adult Membership to the Harrisburg Area YMCA included.
REQUIREMENTS: Qualifications for child care staff include three employment verifications from three separate references that total 2,500 hours of experience working with children and state police, child abuse, FBI, and NSOR (National Sex Offender Registry) clearances. Staff must be at least 18 years old. High school diploma/GED is required.
