What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Summer Camp Nurse position at Camp Evelyn - Girl Scouts of Manitou?
About Us:
We operate two beautiful camp properties, Camp Evelyn in Plymouth, Wisconsin, and Camp Manitou in Shoto, Wisconsin. Camp Evelyn has over 240 acres of forest with access to Crystal Lake and the Mullet River. Camp Manitou has over 140 acres of forest with access to the West Twin River and our own beautiful Serenity Lake. Each summer over 1,000 girls, ranging in age from 6 to 17 years old, attend camp. Girls have the option of staying just for the day or overnight. The camping season starts in June and goes through the end of August.
Overview of position:
Responsible for overseeing and promoting the health and safety of campers and staff. Takes care of all cases of illness and injuries to campers and staff. Reviews and verifies staff and camper health information, treatment records, incident reports and other health information daily. Must have knowledge of and distribute all medications.
A degree in a health field is not required, however, a candidate who has some experience in a health-related field is preferred.
Along with job specific requirements, all staff are expected to:
- Be able to adapt to a flexible 24-hour schedule
- Be a team player—camp cannot function unless everyone is working together
- Have willingness to create a positive community with fellow staff members and campers
- Have experience working with kids and/or skills related to the specific position
- Have willingness, enthusiasm, and ability to participate fully in the camp experience
- Enjoy living and working in the outdoors
- Create a safe, supportive, and positive environment for all girls. The focus at camp is the girls—we need to make sure we focus on their needs and provide support, guidance, encouragement, and patience at all times
- Act as an appropriate role model for the girls and fellow staff members through actions, appearance, language and professional work habits
- Realize respecting everyone is important—this includes yourself, campers, staff members, visitors, and the environment
- Abide by camp policies, procedures, and guidelines
