Camp Good Days and Special Times, Inc. is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization, founded in 1979, dedicated to improving the quality of life for children, adults and families whose lives have been affected by cancer or sickle cell anemia. All the programs and services provided by Camp Good Days are offered free of charge for the participants, which is only possible through the generosity of so many individuals and organizations, as well as the success of our many special fundraising events. Programming includes a large variety of events aimed at children of all ages, at venues in the Greater Rochester area and at our recreational facility on Keuka Lake.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Aquatics Director is responsible for overseeing the camp’s water-based activities, ensuring the safety of all participants, and managing the aquatic staff. Key responsibilities typically include:
- Supervising Aquatic Programs: Plan and organize open swim, water sports, and other aquatic activities.
- Safety and Compliance: Ensure the camp meets all local regulations and safety standards, including lifeguard certification and first aid training. Conduct regular safety drills.
- Staff Management: Train and supervise lifeguards. Provide ongoing support and evaluations.
- Facility Maintenance: Monitor the condition of swimming pools or waterfronts, ensuring cleanliness, proper equipment, and safe water conditions.
- Program Development: Create engaging and age-appropriate activities, ensuring they cater to a range of skill levels and abilities.
- Communication: Maintain communication with camp leadership, camp counselors, and staff regarding aquatics-related concerns and camper progress.
- Non-Aquatic Program Activities: Participate enthusiastically in camp activities, planning and leading those as assigned
- Emergency Response: Be prepared to respond quickly and effectively to aquatic emergencies, including administering first aid, CPR, and coordinating with medical staff and emergency services when necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Be at least 21 years of age
- Have a minimum of:
- one season of previous experience as a camp aquatics director at a New York State children’s camp; OR
- two seasons of previous experience consisting of at least 12 weeks as a children’s camp lifeguard which had more than one lifeguard supervising it at a time; OR
- 18 weeks of previous experience as a lifeguard at a swimming pool or bathing beach, which had more than one lifeguard supervising it at a time.
- Certifications:
- Water Safety Instructor Certification
- Lifeguard Management Certification
- CPR/AED for the professional responder (preferred - can be obtained through internal training)
- Responding to Emergencies (preferred - can be obtained through internal training)
Job Type: Seasonal
Pay: $400.00 - $525.00 per week
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday
- Rotating weekends
- Weekends as needed
