Overnight Summer Camp Assistant Aquatics Director
Camp JCA Shalom, located in Angeles National Forest, is hiring positions for our sleep-away summer camp. We are hiring an ASSISTANT AQUATICS DIRECTOR for the upcoming summer (June 8-August 3). Have the summer of your life, make new friends, and spend time in the great outdoors! The starting amount for this position is 3,250 for the summer which includes room and board on-site.
ASSISTANT AQUATICS DIRECTOR
General Function:
Under the direction of the Assistant Directors, the Assistant Aquatics Director helps manage the operations and programs of the camp aquatics center in accordance with the purposes and policies of the Shalom Institute.
Requirements:
- The ability to work closely with staff in identifying and developing aquatic programs and services to meet the goals and objectives of Camp JCA Shalom. The candidate must possess a variety of skills including leadership development, communication, program management, program planning and administration, pool operations, and the training and evaluation of aquatics staff.
- The candidate must also be able to delegate appropriate responsibilities involved with the day-to-day operations of the aquatics facility.
- Supervise, direct, or guide all operations with knowledge of the branches and associations long and short-range goals.
- Prefer candidate lives on site during the summer season (June 5th - August 4th)
- Must have the following current certifications: Lifeguard, CPR for the and Professional Rescuer, Additional certification desired: Lifeguard Instructor, CPR for the Professional Rescuer Instructor, Title 22 Instructor
Essential Functions:
1. Directs all operations of aquatic programs (At camp, field trips and beach days) and the aquatics facility.
2. Oversees the development and administration of the two aquatic budgets.
3. Provide training for paid and volunteer staff.
4. Revise the Aquatics Manual and ensure that it is up to date, and up to current ACA Standards.
5. Instruct the Aquatics Staff about the necessary contents of the Aquatics Manual
6. Ensure that ALL ACA Standards are upheld throughout the ENTIRE summer.
Specific Functions
Developing and/or implementing program activities to involve campers and their counselors during activity periods, in coordination with the Program Directors
- Develop/implement activities that will be appropriate to the various age groups
- Be present and on time for activity
- Provide leadership: guide, motivate, and instruct the campers while attending the activity
- Develop a team feeling in your program area if possible, and for the Camp as a whole
- Set a good example for all campers
- Observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques
Establishing and enforcing safety precautions, regulations, and emergency procedures relating to the equipment, materials, and area of your assigned program
- Be safety and health conscious regarding campers’ needs
- Communicate and train staff and campers in safety regulations and emergency procedures
Assisting Cabin Staff by being involved and assisting with campers during evening programs, meal times and other free times. Assisting in the development of special programs/activities as needed.
Being aware of not only your own program’s welfare, but also that of the entire Camp.
