What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Counselor position at Camp Joy?
The Cabin Counselor will oversee all aspects of the campers attending Camp Joy and ensure a positive, Christ-centered experience for campers. This role involves leadership and mentorship to support the spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being of all campers. The Cabin Counselor works closely with the Ministry Lead and other staff members to implement a safe, engaging, and spiritually enriching program based on Camp Joy’s mission and values.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Supervision:
· Serve as a spiritual role model, demonstrating Christian values and leading by example in daily interactions and activities.
· Supervise, mentor, and support counseling staff, fostering a collaborative and encouraging environment.
· Attend daily staff meetings to review schedules, address concerns, and provide spiritual encouragement.
Program Coordination:
· Assist in executing camp activities, devotionals, worship sessions, and special events.
· Adapt programming to meet the needs of campers of various ages and spiritual backgrounds.
Camper Care:
· Ensure the safety, well-being, and spiritual growth of all campers.
· Resolve conflicts among campers or staff as needed.
Administrative Duties:
· Prepare reports or logs on activities, incidents, or camper progress as directed by the camp director.
Safety and Compliance:
· Ensure adherence to all safety and child protection policies.
· Respond promptly to emergencies, following established protocols.
· Monitor the health and safety of campers and staff, addressing concerns proactively.
Qualifications:
· Strong personal Christian faith and a commitment to living according to biblical principles.
· Previous experience in a camp, youth ministry, or leadership setting preferred.
· Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills.
· Understanding of child and adolescent development, with a passion for working with youth.
· Ability to commit to at least one full camp week in addition to training.
Work Environment:
· This position requires a high level of physical activity, including outdoor work, participation in camp activities, and long days with little time for a break.
· Housing and meals will be provided during the camp session.
