Camp Magruder is a spiritually based camp and retreat center on the beautiful Oregon Coast. We host religous, educational, and non-profit groups working to make the world a better place through connection, growth, learning, healing, and spiritual wonder. We provide a safe, sacred space for many types of people to be in nature and community in order to foster wonder, love, and justice for everyone.

Essential Job Functions:

• Participate in the maintenance of camp buildings, equipment, and grounds, so they are in good, safe condition and ready for use by guest groups/campers.
• Help maintain up-to-date maintenance records, inventories, and safety check records.Procure needed maintenance supplies and equipment
• Participate in building safety checks as instructed
• Participate in painting, staining, and repair of camp structures
• Improve access to buildings, bathrooms, pathways, etc
• Work to remove safety hazards in timely manner
• Maintain and manage camp vehicles and fueling station
• Maintain a clean and orderly shop, boat house, and camp environs
• Maintain camp infrastructure and service systems
• Assist as needed in overall operations of the camp
• Transport recycling materials to local recycling centers
• Be on call for urgent off-hours camp maintenance needs when Facilities Manager is not available
• Work with Volunteer groups who have been assigned work projects using equipment or skills where maintenance oversight is necessary, providing periodic check-ins and training

Other Job Duties: This position regularly monitors and patrols the camp searching for signs of trespassing or vandalism.

Qualifications: Experience in contracting, electrical work, plumbing, construction, carpentry, and/or landscaping.

Equipment Used: Common equipment utilized in maintenance includes basic tools, electric saws, electric sanders, electric drills, mowers, weed-eaters, air compressors, ladders, chainsaws, axes, blowers, paint brushes/rollers and sprayers, and plumbing equipment, among others.

Position Mission: Maintenance Staff enhance the mission of the camp by ensuring the camp is safe and comfortable for guests, so they may experience the opportunity to learn, be vulnerable, and challenge themselves with less worry about the safety and maintenance of their surroundings

Position Purpose: Maintenance Staff carries out the camp mission by maintaining, repairing, and building the structures, machinery, and grounds in use by guests and camp staff

Physical Aspects of the Job:

• Physical ability to lift and carry 80 pounds.
• Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards of the site and facilities and camper and staff behavior.
• Physical mobility and endurance to perform tasks while standing/walking for long periods of time (60 minutes or more).
• Ability to safely and properly use equipment listed above.
• Ability to provide first aid and assist campers and staff in an emergency.
• Ability to climb ladder and do work from heights
• Periodic work in rainy, wet conditions

Spiritual Life: Camp Magruder is a ministry of the United Methodist Church but does not limit its ministry to Christians or Christian organizations. We believe in helping all groups and people who work to make the world better. Being a Christian is not an essential requirement, but we seek staff members who at least have a knowledge and respect for United Methodist theology and practices, and someone who is willing to live and work within a Christian Community, helping serve our mission to share love inspired by the Spirit of God.

Relationships: Maintenance staff reports directly to the Facilities Manager and Camp Director and works cooperatively with the food service department to assist in the proper and efficient operation of all kitchen appliances, Housekeeping to ensure maintenance needs are addressed in a timely manner, and with Program to maintain program equipment and to train Program staff on camp service projects.

Helpful Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of OSHA requirements.

Vaccination: ue to the requirements of our outdoor school provider partnership with Northwest Regional Educational school district, all Camp Magruder staff members must have received at least one complete round of vaccination for Covid-19.

Term of Service: This is a full-time, year-round, salaried position
