What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Counselor position at Camp Marshall?
Camp Staff directly supervise campers and are responsible to lead groups of campers in daily camp activities. Camp Staff lead and motivate campers, and facilitate safe group interactions to foster campers’ social, spiritual, physical, and intellectual growth. Camp staff will sleep in cabins with campers when needed.
Salary Information Dates of Employment
Starting at $300 per week plus room and board June 10th – July 26, 2025with increases for areas of responsibility and years of service. Responsibilities
1. Concern for campers in your care
- Develop a personal relationship with campers. Get to know them and be available for their various needs. Socially interact with them. Get familiar with what’s going on in their lives.
- Encourage acceptance and fellowship between campers
- Help campers understand policies and procedures of community life
- Discourage and report anti-social or bullying behavior
- Help campers to deal with problems and facilitate conflict resolution
2. Program assistance
- Lead programs as assigned to you
- Use the resources of camp to best advantage in helping campers to grow in their self-discovery
- Work together with other camp staff to build to provide an excellent camp experience and build community
- Help campers to assume responsibility for cabin cleanliness, personal care, and general camp care.
- Perform behind the scenes duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- At least 16 years of age, 18 is preferred
- Experience working with children and formal leadership roles outside of camp is preferred
- Complete staff training at Camp Marshall including all necessary modules
- Must be physically fit enough to walk on rough terrain over the 27 acre site, climb stairs, and carry loads of 40 lbs.
- Willingness to participate fully in all camp activities including worship, arts and crafts, music, water activities, and games
Skills and Certifications - Not required but we would love to know what your gifts are
- Lifeguard Certified - Camp can provide certification course during training
- Skill leadership- yoga, archery, sailing, art, music, running, games, or other skill areas you might have.
There are a few specific roles that may be filled from the camp staff including:
- Camp health leader- EMT, Paramedic, RN or other qualification
- Sailing Instructor- certified or with significant experience
- Music Leader- Skills with the guitar and leading singing of camp songs
- Art Leader- Skills in leading art projects campers will feel proud of
- Lifeguard- Certification required (can be accomplished during staff training)
- Archery Instructor- Level one certification
- Challenge Course Instructor- certified or with significant experience
These roles will include a pay bump, and most will be assigned during staff training. Camp Marshall may be able to assist in certifications.
