Job Title: Camper Care Coordinator
Location: Hybrid/Camp Spencer, Harford County
Position Type: Part-time, Hourly
Hourly Rate Range: $19-$22/hour outside of residential camp weeks
Residential Camp Week Pay Range: $600-750/week during residential camp weeks
Remote Hours Start: April (a few hours weekly leading up to camp)
On-Site Requirement: Required each residential camp week (two weeks for 2025)
About Us:
Camp Opportunity is a child welfare organization based in Maryland with a mission to provide an overnight summer camp experience for children who have been abused and/or neglected. Since our inception, we’ve positively impacted over 1,000 children ages 8-11. Our one-to-one counselor-to-camper ratio fosters transformative relationships that continue well beyond the camp season. Ultimately, our mission is to break the cycle of abuse and neglect.
Position Overview:
The Camper Care Coordinator will work closely with the Camper Care Specialist to support the mental, emotional, physical, social, and spiritual well-being of our campers. This role will primarily focus on supporting the Camper Care Specialist in implementing programs, assisting with the camper application and admission process, and maintaining strong relationships with campers. The Camper Care Coordinator will also help lead virtual cabin time sessions, assist with Journey classes at camp, and provide essential support in documenting camper needs and progress. This position will report to the Camper Care Specialist and work collaboratively with all team members during the camp season.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Camper Care Specialist in leadership meetings prior to camp and as required.
- Support the Camper Care Specialist in being present and involved in daily camp activities, ensuring the social and emotional well-being of both campers and staff.
- Help implement wellness and social-emotional learning programs for staff and caregivers.
- Serve as a point of contact for campers, staff, and caregivers regarding mental, emotional, and social health challenges, ensuring campers have the resources and support they need.
- Assist with managing information about camper needs, document communication, and update camper records within Camp systems.
- Support the Camper Care Specialist in communicating with caregivers about camper needs and progress.
- Help facilitate and lead virtual cabin time sessions, ensuring continuity of care and support between camp sessions.
- Assist in running Journey classes at camp, supporting campers in developing resilience, emotional regulation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Support the Camper Care Specialist in managing the camper application and admission process, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
- Prepare and maintain reports regarding camper health and wellness in partnership with the Camper Care Specialist.
- Additional responsibilities as needed to support the team and campers.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; a degree in a related field (e.g., Education, Psychology, Social Work, Child Development) is preferred but not required.
- Relevant experience working with children, especially in camp or educational settings, may substitute for formal education.
- Strong ability to engage and build relationships with children, staff, and caregivers.
- Compassionate and able to provide emotional support to campers from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team and support the Camper Care Specialist in a variety of tasks.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Basic knowledge of mental health, emotional regulation, and trauma-informed care practices.
- Certifications or training in trauma-informed care, mental health first aid, or similar areas are a plus.
- Comfort with digital communication tools and the ability to manage camper data and records.
Technical Aptitude Skills:
The ideal candidate will also verify the following technical aptitude skills:
- Data Management: Ability to assist with tracking camper referrals, admissions, and well-being through data management tools.
- Digital Communication: Proficiency in utilizing digital tools for communication and supporting virtual cabin time and camper engagement.
- Google Suite: Familiarity with Google Suite for email communication, documentation, and program tracking.
- Camp Management Software: Willingness to learn camp management software to support camper information and scheduling.
- Adaptability: Ability to learn new technologies quickly, particularly those relevant to camper care and communication.
