Camp Schodack is looking for a friendly, caring, and energetic professional to join our fast-paced and fun team. The Summer Theatre Director will be responsible for two major performances during the summer: the first, a Broadway Junior musical from Music Theatre International, and the second, a revue. This is a demanding and rewarding role that is an essential part of our summer team and the Schodack community. The position reports to the Activity Counselor Supervisor.

Responsibilities:
First Show: Broadway Junior Show
- Show selection occurs prior to the summer.
- Camp will provide scripts, director notes, music, and choreography (these materials are provided by a professional company for a fee).
- The Broadway Junior show is scheduled for the third week of camp.
- Typical length: 50 to 70 minutes (two showings: one in the afternoon and one at night).
- Cast and crew size: approximately 40 to 70 campers.
- All campers who audition are guaranteed a role in the show.
- Additional campers may choose not to audition but can join the tech crew.
Second Show: Revue
- Scheduled for the second week of the second session (session starts July 20, 2025).
- Each revue has a theme that ties together different acts into a cohesive show.
- Cast and crew size: approximately 40 to 70 campers.
- All campers who audition are guaranteed a role in an act for the revue.
- Additional campers may choose not to audition but can join the tech crew.
- Typical length: 50 to 70 minutes (two showings: one in the afternoon and one at night).
Additional Information and Responsibilities
- Spring 2025: Work with the Camp Director to prepare for the production (selecting play/musical, reviewing budget, securing props, costumes, etc. as needed).
- Planning, designing, and implementing costumes, sets, lights, and sound (an outside company provides professional sound support for leads).
- Managing the show budgets.
- Scheduling and supervising auditions, rehearsals, and run-throughs.
- Designing the program and working with the main office to ensure timely printing.
- Maintaining the tidiness of the stage and backstage areas.
- Attending scheduled meetings with the supervisor and keeping them informed of show progress.
- Writing a highlight article for the summer yearbook (examples and tips provided at camp).
- Giving end-of-season and first-session awards to campers who have participated most enthusiastically.
- Completing end-of-season paperwork, including making program recommendations for the following year.
