We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Community Support Specialist to join our team and support the upper camp sections: Eagle and Owl, serving campers in grades 4 through 8.
About the Role
The Inclusion Counselor is a vital member of the Community Support Team, responsible for providing targeted behavioral and emotional support to campers. The Inclusion Counselor is available to respond to difficult or emotional situations as they arise. The Inclusion Counselor is responsible for conducting observations of campers, documenting their behaviors, and maintaining detailed notes to support ongoing assessment and intervention planning. Additionally, the Inclusion Counselor is available to provide guidance and ongoing support to counselors in need of strategies, activities, and games that help to support safety, positivity, and inclusivity for all campers.
Responsibilities
- Report directly to the CST Supervisor and collaborate closely to ensure cohesive behavioral and emotional support for campers.
- Work as a team with CST Supervisor and Section Supervisors to support campers, taking direction on how to be most helpful in each scenario as needed.
- Out in groups, available to deregulate and process in-the-moment behavior.
- Shares information with leadership to help facilitate up-and-down communication re: specific campers, and observations.
- Assist CST Supervisor with triaging both short-term and long-term individual behavior plans and positive behavior incentive systems.
- Assess behavior situations quickly, and able to take over from staff if needed, to help diffuse and/or manage a situations that may be untenable.
- Responsible for keeping detailed notes on assigned cases, logging the data into CampMinder.
- Counselor support:
- Help counselors set community group goals around behavior and inclusion.
- Conduct regular check-ins to assist with the successful execution of behavior plans and ensure counselors feel confident and supported in achieving their goals.
Qualifications
Education: Studying or have obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Education, Social Work, or a related field preferred.
Experience: Previous experience working with children in a camp setting, school, or similar environment.
