Position Description
At Camp Southern Ground (CSG) the Camp Director (CD) is responsible for ensuring that CSG provides quality and impactful programs while developing a strategic framework for all programming that furthers the mission of CSG. The CD will both lead and build the capabilities of all youth and family program teams at camp. The CD will take a data driven approach to developing new programs and improving existing offerings. This person will work under the
guidance of the Chief Program Officer (CPO) and with the executive team to envision and activate the future of camp programming growth and innovation. They will be directly responsible for the implementation and assessment of Camp’s program directions. This person will be an excellent spokesperson and communicator who can share stories of outcomes, passionately, who can innovate and cultivate new initiatives while ensuring the highest quality performance of current programs. The CD will motivate and inspire colleagues with passionate commitment to camp and dedication to the CSG mission of helping individuals find their own unique gifts and talents.
Responsible to
The Camp Director is hired by, and reports to the Chief Program Officer (CPO).
General Qualifications
• Minimum six years’ experience in program management, minimum eight years’ supervisory experience.
• Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, program delivery and oversight, leading cross-functional teams, and managing multiple projects simultaneously with changing priorities and tight deadlines
• Experience in running children’s overnight camps, family camps and ideally working with children with special needs.
• Bachelor’s degree in education, non-profit business management, social work, youth development, or another related field. Master’s Degree preferred.
Responsibilities
• Responsible for program summary reports and impact reports for the CPO, CEO, CDO and CSG board
• Leads presentations and Board discussions when requested.
• Supervises the summer camp team and establishes annual goals and tracks outcomes with CPO.
• Collaborates with the veteran team, providing on-going activity support as needed.
• Assists CPO in the design and development of new camp programs and directly manages these programs from pilot phase through evaluation and installation in the regular camp schedule.
• Envisions continued growth opportunities and in collaboration with the CPO, CDO, CEO, and translates vision into strategic plans.
• Develops and assesses objective performance measurements to ensure consistent, high-quality evaluation, goal setting, and continued improvement in programs delivered.
• Leads annual vision development with the camp team to identify next steps for growth and far-reaching new initiatives.
• Participates in Founder Vision Development Workshops with external thought leaders to continue to shape innovation and program expansion when requested.
• Routinely collects stakeholder feedback (current campers, parents, partners, and community leaders) to enhance existing programs and envision new initiatives.
• Responsible for supporting the development team as assigned by CPO/CDO/CEO.
Management and Leadership
• Nurtures a mission-driven team of energetic and innovative colleagues via inspirational leadership.
• Oversees annual performance review process for all direct reporting employees.
• Works with direct reports to identify and implement training and wellness programs to develop capacity of all staff, full-time and seasonal.
• Inspires, by example, thoroughness, thoughtfulness, positive attitude, openness, trust, and compassion…a servant leader to all employees at CSG.
• Participates actively in all programs and services developing a broad and deep knowledge of all programs.
• Leads, coaches, develops and retains a high-performance team.

• Ensures compliance with all relevant regulations and laws and maintains accreditation standards for membership in various organizations (ACA, NIP, etc.).
• Assists with special projects and performs additional duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
•Supervises all summer camp and family camp staff, with potential to add additional support staff as programs demand.
Required Skills and Abilities:
• Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and database tools.
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and written and oral communication skills.
• The ability to establish positive relationships with a variety of people in multicultural environments.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
• Most working hours will be spent in typical office and outdoor environments.
• Must be able to operate computer for most of workday with appropriate rest periods.
• Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
• Valid driver’s license and driving record which meets insurance carrier requirements.
• Ability to travel as needed on a limited basis.
•It is important that this leader is visible to the program staff running programs on campus.
• Partial remote working is allowed when active supervised programming is not running on camp.
• Camp Director should reside close enough to Camp Southern Ground to ensure that it will not be a hardship to maintain an on-camp presence throughout the year without needing overnight accommodations.
Compensation:
• Salary dependent on experience.
