Job Title: Lead Music Counselor
Camp: Camp W, Wilderness Sleep-Away Camp
Location: Mt. Solitude, Brattleboro VT
Are you a passionate musician who loves working with kids, playing music, and bringing people together? Do you thrive in the outdoors and want to make this summer unforgettable for campers? If so, Camp W is the place for you!
Camp W is more than just a camp – it’s a community, a family, and a place where the heart of the experience beats in the rhythm of our music. From fireside songs to camp-wide sing-alongs, music is the soul of our camp, and we need a Lead Music Counselor who will lead the way!
Purpose:
As our Lead Music Counselor, you’ll be the heartbeat of our camp’s musical culture, leading campers and staff alike in the power of song, rhythm, and connection. You’ll inspire campers to explore their musical talents, whether they’re strumming a guitar, banging on a drum, or belting out their favorite campfire tunes. Your role will include leading daily music activities, singing songs around the fire, engaging campers with music lessons, and creating an inclusive environment where music brings everyone together.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead with song: Whether it's a campfire sing-along, a morning wake-up call, or evening lullabies, you’ll set the musical tone of the day.
- Inspire through music: Share your love of music with campers by teaching guitar, drums, or other instruments in a way that's engaging, fun, and approachable.
- Foster community: Create opportunities for campers to work together musically and be a central figure in building the community vibe that makes Camp W so special.
- Engage with campers: Help campers discover their musical talents, support them in their growth, and encourage self-expression through music.
- Build camp traditions: Play a key role in shaping the traditions and rituals of Camp W through music – from campfire nights to talent shows.
- Collaborate with the team: Work closely with other staff to integrate music into camp activities and the overall camp culture. Whether it’s leading an all-camp assembly or supporting cabin programs, your music will help bring the spirit of togetherness to life.
- Be a role model: Show campers the power of music as a tool for expression, healing, and connection. Demonstrate patience, creativity, and joy in everything you do.
Qualifications:
- Proficient in playing guitar (bonus if you play other instruments too!).
- Previous experience working with children, preferably in a camp or youth program setting.
- Energetic, engaging, and confident leading groups of kids in song and musical activities.
- Ability to create an inclusive, welcoming environment where every camper feels encouraged to participate.
- A love for nature, community, and the camp experience.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
- A positive attitude, patience, and a genuine love for kids and music!
Perks of the Job:
- Be part of a vibrant, caring community in the stunning wilderness of Mt. Solitude.
- Share your passion for music with a diverse group of campers who will look up to you as a musical mentor.
- Make lifelong memories while building the soundtrack to a magical summer experience.
- Enjoy the outdoors, beautiful landscapes, and a close-knit team of like-minded individuals.
- Create unforgettable moments of joy, laughter, and music around the campfire.
