Wilderness Preschool Teacher
Camp W | Summer 2025 | Residential or Commuting Position
Are you looking for a meaningful, creative, and fun way to spend your summer outside? Camp W is hiring passionate, experienced, and nature-loving individuals to guide our youngest campers (ages 4–6) through days filled with wonder, exploration, and connection.
This position can be residential or non-residential depending on your availability. Our wilderness preschool program is designed to provide immersive, hands-on learning experiences in a relaxed, supportive, and nature-based setting.
About the Role:
As a Wilderness Preschool Teacher, you’ll co-lead a group of up to 12 campers alongside another educator. Your role is to ensure their safety, nurture their natural curiosity, and make every day an adventure. Rain or shine, you’ll be outdoors—tracking animals, telling stories, building forts, playing games, and modeling reverence for the land.
Schedule:
- Days: Monday – Friday
- Hours: 8:30 AM – 4:45 PM
- Season: June 15 – August 10, 2025
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate age-appropriate activities rooted in nature connection, creativity, and exploration
- Ensure the safety, supervision, and emotional well-being of campers
- Support daily rhythms including opening circles, nature walks, swimming, story time, crafts, and rest
- Administer first aid when necessary and follow camp protocols for safety and communication
- Attend staff training, meetings, and be a reliable, positive presence on-site
- Maintain clear, respectful communication with fellow staff and parents
- Report incidents, injuries, or supply needs to the Camp Director promptly
Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent required; early childhood experience preferred
- Must be able to spend 80–100% of the day outside, in varied weather conditions
- Comfortable being in the pool with children on swim days
- Must complete Safety Series Training (First Aid/CPR, Child Abuse Awareness, etc.) within 30 days of hire
- Ability to lift 30 lbs, respond quickly to emergencies, and manage a group with clarity and compassion
