Summer Camp Lifeguard
Position:
Would you like to spend a meaningful, engaging, and fun summer in the Mountains?
Purpose: To serve as the primary adult responsible for the youth in your group. Counselors plan and provide engaging, structured activities during the day, and encourage participation throughout the camp program through example.
Collective Goals for Camp:
- Provide campers with safe, clean environment that meets or exceeds standards
- Provide campers with fun, engaging activities and community events
- Emphasize importance of social responsibility and kindness towards others, as well as environmental stewardship
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Lifeguard Certification
- Knowledge of wilderness survival, environmental science
- Passion for the outdoors
- Experience with children
- Attendance at staff week for training
- Certification in CPR/First Aid, etc.
- Exhibit characteristics of leadership, responsibility, patience, dependability, maturity, integrity, ability to work independently, and display a positive attitude.
Duties:
- Assume responsibility for safety of campers; make safe choices and limits, report incidents
- Follow camp objectives, rules, guidelines, and policies
- Plan and implement daily activities
- Serve as a positive role model for youth
- Show a genuine interest in campers
- Be punctual and organized
- Problem solve through situations; seek assistance when necessary
- Attend scheduled meetings and trainings
- Participate enthusiastically
- Receive and apply feedback from director, asst. director
- Work with rest of staff in a respectful, team oriented manner
- Work to ensure all youth are comfortable, safe, and included
- Have a great summer with amazing people!
Purpose: Lifeguards and cabin counselors serve as the primarty caregiver for 8-10 youth in their cabin with a counselor-in-training or other staff support. Counselors are responsible for the day to day supervision within their cabin, including at night. Discover the connection, wonder, and surprise of living with and supporting campers in a cabin in the woods for the summer. Learn more than you ever thought you could about relating to children in a manner that empowers their growth and independence. Encourage participation throughout the camp program by leading through example.
