Camp Wayfarer is seeking a passionate and experienced Equestrian Head Instructor to lead our summer horseback riding program. This role is ideal for someone with a strong equestrian background, leadership skills, and a love for working with youth. The Equestrian Head Instructor is responsible for the safety, education, and enjoyment of campers within the equestrian program, overseeing horse care, barn management, and lesson delivery.
Key Responsibilities:Instruction & Program Development
- Assist in developing and implementing an equestrian curriculum for all camper skill levels—beginner to advanced.
- Lead daily horseback riding lessons, teaching English and disciplines.
- Instruct campers on basic horse care, grooming, tacking, and barn safety.
- Create a positive and supportive environment that fosters camper confidence and skill development.
Barn & Horse Management
- Assist in daily care and wellbeing of horses, ensuring they are healthy, properly fed, watered, and groomed.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and organized barn, stalls, tack, and riding areas.
- Supervise feeding schedules, turnout rotations, and general barn operations.
- Maintain inventory of supplies and coordinate with leadership for replenishment.
Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise equestrian staff and volunteers.
- Ensure adherence to all safety protocols and best practices in horse handling and riding instruction.
- Serve as a role model to campers and staff, promoting respect for animals and peers.
- Communicate regularly with camp leadership regarding program needs, horse care, and camper progress.
Qualifications:
- Equestrian experience, including riding, horse care, and barn management.
- Prior in teaching horseback riding lessons or leading equestrian programs.
- Strong knowledge of horse safety and emergency procedures.
- Leadership and supervisory experience; ability to manage a team.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to camp).
- CHA Certification or equivalent not required but is preferred.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work outdoors in varied weather conditions, and engage in physically demanding barn tasks.
- Comfort working with horses of varying temperaments and sizes.

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
