What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Kayak Instructor position at Camp Wayfarer?
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and ensure the safety of campers during all camp activities
- Plan, organize, and lead a variety of kayaking activities for campers
- Teach and coach campers in beginner, intermediate and advanced whitewater kayaking
- Provide instruction and guidance in whitewater kayaking, paddling and boat safety instruction
- Assist with behavior management and conflict resolution among campers
- Set up and maintain equipment for activities
- Ensure a positive and inclusive environment for all campers
Skills:
- Strong background in waterfront activities
- Ability to lead and instruct campers in boat safety, paddling techniques and whitewater safety
- Knowledge of behavior management techniques for working with children
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with campers, parents, and fellow staff members
- Ability to climb, run, jump, and participate in physical activities alongside campers
- Certification in lifeguarding or first aid/CPR is a plus
