- Primary Focus: To utilize the school's outdoor spaces, specifically the vegetable/flower garden, pollinator garden, pond, and schoolyard habitat, to enhance experiential learning and enjoyment.
- Hands-on Learning: The role emphasizes direct interaction with the environment. Activities should include consistent care of the Whitby Garden with light weeding and harvesting which will provide practical experience and connect students to the food cycle.
- Environmental Stewardship: By engaging students in the care of the gardens and habitats, the specialist fosters a sense of responsibility and environmental stewardship.
- Science and Art Connections: Conducting experiments, observing and recording data, creating nature-based art, or using natural materials for artistic expression, and cooking and enjoying the garden harvest.
Required Skills and Qualities:
