Employment Type: Seasonal, Full-Time, Residential Camp (9 Weeks)

About Camp Wightman: Nestled on 270 acres of scenic land in Griswold, CT, Camp Wightman is a year-round Christian camp and conference center offering a variety of facilities, including retreat centers, cabin villages, lodges, a dining hall, and several outbuildings. Our residential camp serves both traditional and special needs campers through a robust summer camp program, as well as hosting retreat groups throughout the year. At Camp Wightman, we provide an environment where children, families, and groups can relax, grow, and connect with nature, all within the framework of Christian values and teachings.

Job Summary: As a Cabin Counselor at Camp Wightman, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety, well-being, and positive experience of the campers in your care. You will be the primary point of contact for campers, guiding them through daily routines and activities while fostering a fun, inclusive, and supportive environment. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to serve as support staff during retreat weeks, assisting retreat guests and providing a welcoming atmosphere for all.

Camp Dates:

• Staff Training Week: June 16th - June 21st
• Counselor Work Period: June 22nd - August 16th
• Retreat Weeks: Certain weeks during the camp season will involve supporting retreat groups and serving as staff for their activities and needs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Camper Supervision & Guidance: Serve as the primary point of contact for campers within the cabin, guiding them through daily routines, activities, and schedules.
• Fostering a Positive Environment: Create an inclusive, respectful, and engaging environment that encourages campers to grow socially, emotionally, and physically.
• Safety & Supervision: Supervise campers at all times, ensuring their safety and well-being during scheduled activities, free time, and meals, while also addressing any individual needs.
• Behavior Management: Monitor camper behavior and provide support for resolving conflicts or addressing challenges as they arise.
• Incident & Health Reporting: Promptly report any incidents, injuries, health concerns, or behavioral issues to the appropriate camp leadership team members.
• Team Collaboration: Collaborate with other counselors and camp staff to run activities and create a cohesive, fun experience for campers.
• Support During Retreat Weeks: During retreat weeks, serve as support staff for retreat guests, assisting with various duties, ensuring their needs are met, and contributing to the overall retreat experience.
• General Camp Responsibilities: Participate in camp-wide events, meetings, and activities, helping to create a dynamic and enjoyable camp environment for all campers.

Qualifications:

• At least 18 years of age.
• Experience working with children or in a camp setting is preferred but not required.
• Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage diverse camper needs with patience, flexibility, and empathy.
• Responsible, reliable, and safety-conscious.
• CPR and First Aid certification will be provided during staff training.

Time Off: Cabin Counselors will have time off from Saturday noon to Sunday noon.

Salary: $400 per week, plus room and board
