Job Title: Kitchen Support Person
Location: Camp Wightman, 207 Coal Pit Hill Rd, Griswold, CT
Hours: 10-15 hours per week (Mostly weekends. Additional hours available in the summer months.)
Reports To: Head Cook, Executive Director/Assistant Camp Director
Position Summary:
Camp Wightman is a year-round camp and conference center located on 270 acres in Griswold, CT. The camp features retreat centers, cabin villages, lodges, and a dining hall, and provides meals to guests throughout the year.
Camp Wightman is seeking a reliable and hardworking Kitchen Support Person to join our team. This part-time position involves dishwashing (using Hobart equipment), light meal preparation, and kitchen and dining hall cleaning. The Kitchen Support Person will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of the kitchen during meal service for guests while maintaining a clean and organized environment in both the kitchen and dining hall.
Key Responsibilities:
- Wash dishes, pots, pans, utensils, and cooking equipment promptly and efficiently.
- Assist with light meal prep, including chopping vegetables, assembling simple dishes, and preparing ingredients for meals.
- Maintain a clean and organized kitchen area by regularly wiping down surfaces, cleaning appliances, and ensuring the area is free from food debris.
- Maintain a clean dining hall by regularly wiping down dining tables, coffee counter, and cleaning floors.
- Assist with setting up the kitchen for meal service, including organizing ingredients and preparing workstations.
- Empty trash and recycling bins in the kitchen and dining hall, and dispose of waste according to health and safety regulations.
- Spot clean dining hall bathrooms and kitchen bathroom, resupply paper supplies as needed.
- Follow proper sanitation and food safety guidelines to maintain a safe and clean kitchen environment.
- Assist with washing and cleaning kitchen linens, such as towels and aprons.
- Help with food storage and organization in accordance with safety and health regulations.
- Assist with other kitchen duties as directed by the Head Cook, Executive Director/Assistant Camp Director.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a kitchen or food service setting is preferred, but not required.
- ServSafe, is required, Camp Wightman can assist training and an online certification process.
- Ability to work efficiently and handle multiple tasks.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to lift and organize food products as first in, first out.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining cleanliness and food safety standards.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to stand for long periods, lift and carry supplies, and move heavy pots and pans.
- Positive attitude, good communication skills, and a willingness to contribute to a collaborative team environment.
