What are the responsibilities and job description for the Camp Counselor position at Camp Wildcraft Art and Nature Camp?
We are seeking a two more creative, energetic and and adventurous Guides (AKA Counselors) to join our team at our Malibu location of Camp Wildcraft Art and Nature Camp. The Camp Wildcraft mission is to grow creative, curious, confident and caring kids who feel at home in nature. This is a full time, 8 week summer position.
Job Summary
Wildcraft Guides work as part of a collaborative team to supervise, inspire and lead our creative program with multi-age groups of children. Guides facilitate and assist with the camp arts program, take daily nature hikes with our campers around the flowing creek on our campus, lead activities such as baking, gardening, theater, field games and other programs aligned with their skills and interests. Our summer staff are trained to build on, and harness their own strengths and experiences to build a warm, kind, inclusive and inspiring community where campers and staff feel a greater connection to each other--and the natural world.
We invite you to apply if this sounds like you:
- A daily commute to Malibu is realistic for you. Applicants must have a car, there is no public transportation to our site. See our address below.
- You have experience working with kids: Easily and warmly connect with kids; genuinely like being with 4-14 year-olds, are empathetic and patient, have a sense of humor, and can be authentic and real with kids- as well as silly and fun.
- Like to make things: Can quickly and comfortably dive into our weekly thematic mixed-media art projects, and learn new art-making techniques on the spot; thrive in an experimental and improvisational environment and are passionate about guiding and encouraging kids on their creative journey.
- Love hiking and being out in nature: You find wonder in the natural world and are excited to share this kids.
- Have skills and interests to share: Have experience teaching, facilitating, coaching and/or leading programs with kids (and/or adults). As we are an art and nature camp with a small and robust staff, we work with you to build on these skills so you can effectively and creativity lead activities and stretch in new directions.
- Are fun, flexible, open minded and creative. You have a sense of humor, and can easily adapt to changing plans. You have a natural curiosity and can make even ordinary moments EXTRAordinary.
- Are a collaborative and hardworking team player: Take initiative, are self-directed, communicate well, like working with others. You can receive and learn from feedback given to help you grow in your role. We see each summer at Camp Wildcraft as an opportunity to learn together, work hard, build community, and have each other’s back.
- Are responsible, self-directed and safety-minded. You are eagle-eyed to keep kids safe, and stay calm and take action when there are challenges. All Guides need to be certified in CPR and first aid and are provided an online course prior to the start of camp.
