Camp Yakety Yak - Executive Director

Camp Yakety Yak (CYY) seeks a part-time (.75 FTE) Executive Director for its summer camp held in Lake Oswego.

Our ideal candidate is a champion for youth and families experiencing disability and an excellent communicator who knows how to establish and maintain effective relationships with community members, organizational partners, and donors. They are strategic with an ability to act creatively and inclusively in fundraising efforts for organizational sustainability and growth. In addition, our next Executive Director will understand the value of our staff and volunteers, the heart of our organization, and has the management skills to support a well-resourced team.

With increasing waitlists and rising program demand, CYY is at a pivotal moment, ready to grow and expand its impact. The Executive Director will be instrumental in shaping and executing the organization’s vision, working closely with the Board of Directors, Camp Director, staff, and community partners. This leader will drive strategic initiatives to scale programs, diversify funding sources, and strengthen organizational capacity. By focusing on sustainability and aligning efforts with the mission, the Executive Director will ensure CYY’s continued success and reach.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the BOD to develop and implement the organization’s vision and strategic plan, ensuring alignment with the mission and long-term goals.
  • Conduct regular assessments of the organization’s performance and adjust the strategic plan as needed.
  • Identify opportunities for growth and expansion in alignment with the mission, and develop plans to pursue them.
  • Board of Directors
  • Assist in onboarding new board members and facilitating ongoing training to enhance governance effectiveness.
  • Policy Development: Support the BOD in drafting, reviewing, and implementing organizational policies to promote transparency, accountability, and compliance as needed.
  • Meeting Preparation and Facilitation: Prepare agendas, reports, and materials for BOD meetings. Facilitate discussions and follow up on action items to maintain momentum on key initiatives, as needed.
  • Fundraising and Development:
  • Drive and manage comprehensive fundraising initiatives, including annual giving campaigns, special events, sponsorships, grants, and corporate campaigns. Work with the Board of Directors and other stakeholders to establish fundraising priorities and opportunities.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with donors, community partners (e.g., local businesses, corporations, and nonprofits), and supporters to expand financial resources.
  • Oversee key donor and partner engagement activities, ensuring consistent stewardship and outreach.
  • Represent Camp Yakety Yak at donor events, marketing opportunities, and community activities to promote visibility and build connections.
  • Lead and coordinate grant funding efforts, including research, writing, submission, tracking, and reporting.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practices in nonprofit fundraising and development, and work collaboratively with the Board of Directors and other stakeholders to continuously improve the organization’s fundraising efforts.
  • Marketing and Public Relations: Develop and implement an integrated digital, social media and print marketing strategy to enhance brand awareness and engagement.
  • Financial Management and Leadership:
  • Develop, manage, and oversee the annual budget in collaboration with the Board of Directors, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
  • Monitor financial performance, track expenditures, and ensure cost-effectiveness across all operations.
  • Oversee financial reporting, providing accurate and timely updates to the Board, funders, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal, tax, and nonprofit financial regulations, including coordinating annual audits.
  • Manage cash flow, maintain operating reserves, and implement strategies to ensure long-term financial sustainability.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to diversify revenue streams, including grants, sponsorships, and earned income.
  • Establish and maintain internal financial controls to safeguard organizational assets
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practices in nonprofit financial management and ensure that the organization’s financial policies and procedures are in compliance with all relevant regulations and guidelines
  • Community and Inclusivity Advocacy: Foster inclusivity and collaborate with all staff, volunteers, partner agencies, and supporters to further the mission.
  • Active Camp Participation: Engage as an active member of the Camp Yakety Yak community by attending camp sessions and participating in non-fundraising events and activities to strengthen relationships with stakeholders.

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or Graduate Certificate in community development, public relations, nonprofit or public management, marketing, or other related fields, or equivalent experience in the field of development and a proven track record of consistently reaching fundraising goals through a variety of activities. (An equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted for education requirements.)
  • Minimum 5 years experience as a nonprofit leader or equivalent leadership experience, including experience with fundraising, financial management, working with and reporting to a Board of Directors, and building partnerships.
  • Demonstrated experience in nonprofit financial management and budgeting.
  • Successful track record in fundraising, development, and donor acquisition.
  • Experience working with individuals or families experiencing disability, preferred.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate with diverse groups of people.
  • Entrepreneurial in nature: creative, self-starting, and oriented toward action and results.
  • Excellent computer skills. (Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Photoshop, donor database systems, virtual platforms, and social media platforms).
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule that may include occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs; frequent keyboarding and sitting.

Job Types: Full-time, Contract, Temporary

Pay: $55,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
