Job Summary:The Camp Nurse provides essential health care services to campers and staff in a safe, nurturing camp environment. This role involves responding to daily health needs, conducting assessments, administering medications, and handling medical emergencies as they arise. The Camp Nurse collaborates closely with the Health Center staff including Physicians, NPs, RNs, nursing students, and health center intern, Director of Health Services, and Medical Director to ensure all health and safety protocols are met, supporting the health and well-being of the camp community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily operations of the camp's health centers, including managing nursing staff and delegating responsibilities as needed.
- Provide direct care for campers and staff, including assessments, treatments, and medication administration.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of health services, incident reports, and medical records.
- Communicate and collaborate closely with the Director of Health Services on all health-related matters, including staffing needs, medical supplies, and incident management.
- Facilitate clear and proactive communication with camp staff regarding camper and staff health concerns, ensuring appropriate follow-up and care.
- Monitor and respond to health-related issues, emergencies, and daily health center needs.
- Uphold all camp health protocols and standing orders, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and best practices.
- Supervise and support the nursing team, ensuring staff provide high-quality care and maintain a positive, professional environment.
- Provide health education and training to camp staff on topics such as first aid, injury prevention, and chronic condition management.
- Assist in the preparation of health supplies and medical kits for off-site trips and camp activities.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient health center environment.
- Participate in daily briefings with the Director of Health Services to discuss ongoing health center operations, concerns, and strategic planning.
Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) with current compact state nursing license or willingness to gain reciprocity with NH Board of Nursing.
- Experience in pediatric, school, or camp nursing preferred.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work closely with the Director of Health Services, nursing staff, and camp team.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a focus on safety and care.
- CPR and First Aid certification required.
