Education and Experience :
- Has obtained a bachelor's degree in a related field. Teaching license preferred.
- Minimum of five years of experience working with "at risk" and / or "behaviorally challenged" students in a public school setting.
- Expert knowledge of function-based intervention planning for developing behavior change strategies that focuses on reducing problem behavior and increasing more appropriate behavior.
- Expert knowledge of techniques needed to successfully complete effective Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA), function-based interventions, and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP).
- Exceptional knowledge in the use of assessment and assessment data to inform instruction and prescribe work plans for individual students.
- Demonstrate ability to plan and evaluate strategies for improving student behaviors.
- Ascribes to the philosophy that all children can succeed and demonstrates the commitment to do what is necessary to make this a reality.
- Demonstrates exceptional skill in the roles of a role model, collaborator, action researcher, reflective practitioner, and learner advocate.
General Definition of Work :
Highly qualified Behavior Intervention Specialist with knowledge and skills necessary to assist individuals, groups and systems through the application of positive behavior supports. The Intervention Specialist reports to the Director of Student Services and provides support at the school level, working to design and implement a tiered system of support for all students and will provide diversified strategies and activities specifically designed for targeted students. In addition, the Intervention Specialist works directly with identified students to adopt behaviors that positively impact their behavior and increases their academic performance. The Intervention Specialist will also work with the families of individual students to obtain additional behavioral and mental health support as needed.

Knowledge of CCPS curriculum and techniques for integrating curriculum, CCPS policies and effective instructional and behavioral practices; thorough understanding of the teaching and learning process and behavior modification; ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education; ability to infuse technology into curriculum; ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office, school based staff, students, parents and community; excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
