Fleet Lead Driver
Department: Campbell Oil Company – Lubricants Division
Location: Elizabethtown, NC
Overview
The Fleet Lead Driver is responsible for helping the Distribution Manager & staff drivers ensure that the company’s assets stay in the best working order while also helping the distribution team stay efficient in day-to-day operations. This position requires you to be highly attentive, safety-oriented, and able to manage a smooth operation keeping the entire team safe and operational.
Responsibilities
- Training new and current staff drivers to follow procedures, company policies, and state and federal regulations.
- Perform company procedure and policy checks, ensure employees are following those correctly.
- Ensure smooth and efficient workflow. Providing guidance to drivers during deliveries. Escalates any major issues to the company director.
- Unload bulk deliveries
- Driver position fill in for call outs or heavy workload relief.
- Maintain truck service records and DOT requirements
- Investigate Driver delivery issues. (non-delivered product, lack of notes, damaged product, etc.)
- Equipment inspections (truck & trailer). Look for missing or damaged equipment. Ensure equipment is fit for use under DOT standards. 1 Unit inspection per week.
- New site inspections. Inspecting new sites for tank sizes, accessibility to bulk tanks, etc.
- Maintain any unsafe reports given from drivers for either damaged equipment or unsafe delivery sites.
- Update and maintain current Equipment preventative maintenance (truck & trailer). Communicating any major issues to the company director.
- Maintain good working relationships with drivers and dispatchers, along with maintenance personnel.
- Responsible for maintaining and ordering supplies. Gloves, delivery tickets, delivery equipment, etc.
- Report any errors/issues to the Director whereby the error/issue either costs the company money, and/or created a service complaint with the customer.
Requirements
- CDL-A with Tanker and Hazmat Endorsement required.
- 3 years of related work experience required.
- Strong organizational skills and able to work well in a structured environment.
- Detail focused.
- Ability to make continuous forward progress on multiple tasks.
- Possess computer/technology skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Commitment to Excellence and holding team to highest standards.
Key Performance Indicators
Safety tracking
Preventing accidents from happening is a major part of our business that we take very seriously. Accidents can be costly; we do what we can to prevent those accidents and that’s why we have the procedures that we do. Fleet Manager will be tracked on the following.
- Proper training for new drivers (Trainees)
- Pre/ Post trip walk around inspection.
- Navigating sites safely.
- Report faulty COC equipment.
- Report faulty customer equipment.
- Preventable accidents. Damage to company or customer property.
- DMV Violations (Out of Service Violations)
Operations Tracking
Given the vast geographical territory we cover, time is money which means downtime is to be avoided as much as possible. Equally important as down time is day-to-day efficiencies. We need to make sure we are getting the most bang for our buck on a per stop basis.
- Thorough inspections of equipment. 1 unit inspection per week, inspection report must be turned into company director.
- Clear communication with dispatch on any truck or trailer switch.
- Clear communication with Director on any asset negligence.
- Supplies are available for Mechanics and drivers.
