Position Summary:

Under the direction and guidance of the Vice President of Institutional Advancement, the Director of Development for Institutional Advancement is in an integral part of the University Advancement Team.

In fulfilling this role and its related responsibilities, the Director of Development for Institutional Advancement assists the Advancement team in achieving the University’s goals and objectives in the areas of leadership annual giving and the Fund for Campbell, the University’s unrestricted fund.

The Director of Development will serve as a frontline fundraiser, working closely with the University Advancement Team to develop and implement a leadership annual giving program for the University. The Director will possess a comprehensive track record of fundraising accomplishments, constituent relationships, and a demonstrated capacity to work within a team.

This position will have direct responsibility for maintaining and managing a personal portfolio with the expectation of identifying, cultivating, and soliciting leadership annual gifts ranging from $1,000 to $24,999.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create a formalized leadership annual giving program at Campbell which will support the Fund for Campbell and build a pipeline for major donors.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and secure charitable gifts ranging from $1,000 to $24,999 on an annual basis, focusing on the Fund to Campbell.
  • Develop a strategic development and management plan of a portfolio up to 125 prospects and donors.
  • Lead stewardship and solicitation efforts for members of the Kivett Loyalty Society in partnership with members of the University Advancement team.
  • Assist in fundraising efforts across the spectrum of the University, as needed.
  • Make donor referrals to gift officers, as appropriate.
  • Participate in stewardship efforts with University Advancement.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to help align donors’ philanthropic interests with various priorities.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
  • Uphold and abide by all Campbell University policies and procedures, including, but not limited to; Title IX and Information Security, including FERPA and other state and federal guidelines.
  • Other job related duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 3-5 years of significant higher education, nonprofit, customer relations, or related experience in the areas of fundraising, donor stewardship, and prospect cultivation.
  • Experience in cold calling, negotiating, and closing business deals is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Self-motivated and goal oriented.
  • Strong understanding of the development process and donor cycle.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to a variety of audiences through both oral and written channels.
  • Possess a high level of writing, editing and general communication skills and effective public relations practices, with knowledge of AP Style.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel and Word with familiarity with Wordpress CMS.
  • Familiarity with Ellucian CRM Advance and web-based applications.
  • Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy and discretion in dealing with donors, alumni, trustees, faculty, staff, students, and the public.
  • Effective decision-making capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects, and still meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to organize, direct, prioritize, and delegate work appropriately.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to demonstrate tact, courtesy, and discretion in dealing with faculty, staff, students, high-level university officials, and the public.
  • Ability to work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in complex and new situations.
