Position Summary :

The Director of Financial Aid (DFA) serves as the chief student financial aid officer of the University for all undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs under the supervision and guidance of the Vice President for Enrollment Management. The DFA also works closely with the University Bursar to offer students and families a Student Financial Services (SFS) model. The DFA will have significant knowledge regarding federal, state, and institutional aid programs, including related policies, procedures, and protocol. S / he will be the primary representative to external agencies on matters related to compliance, audits, and program reviews. The DFA will also be responsible for supervising a staff comprised of employees skilled in general financial aid counseling, as well as subject-specific duties relevant to the field of university financial aid (including, but not limited to, financial aid packaging, federal loans, FAFSA verification, federal work study, Veteran's Affairs financial aid programs, etc.). The DFA will be an effective communicator including public speaking in a variety of settings.

This position is based on Campbell's main campus in Buies Creek, NC and is not a remote / hybrid role.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Lead the team of professionals dedicated to providing access and educational opportunities to a diverse group of undergraduate, graduate, and professional students.
  • Advise the Vice President for Enrollment Management on matters related to financial aid programming, budgets, and strategies.
  • Oversee administration and awarding of federal, state, institutional, and outside financial aid.
  • Participate in establishing awarding strategies in consultation with university senior leadership and external consultants.
  • Play a central role in building annual financial aid operations and scholarships / grants budgets.
  • Prepare reports for federal, state, and other agencies as well as for the university leadership.
  • Interact with students, prospective students, parents, and community at large in order to disseminate accurate information regarding financial aid opportunities, policies, and procedures.
  • Represent the Financial Aid office and collaborate with other members of the university community, senior administration, staff, and faculty on all matters relevant to student finance.
  • Supervise and train financial aid office staff, provide coaching / mentoring, and professional development opportunities and manage the process for employee evaluation, in partnership with the associate and assistant directors of financial aid.
  • Collaborate with leadership in the Vice President for Finance's division regarding matters of student finance, bursar related activities, etc.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
  • Uphold and abide by Campbell University policies and procedures, including, but not limited to; Title IX and Information Security, including, but not limited to; FERPA and other state and federal mandates.

Education / Experience :

  • Master's degree preferred; Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of 5 to 8 years of financial aid experience, including in a senior leadership capacity.
  • Experience with Ellucian Colleague, Informer, Blackboard and / or similar programs used in financial aid offices within higher education preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • Ability to communicate effectively to all groups through both oral and written channels.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills
  • Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Comprehensive computer skills with the ability to learn and utilize new and emerging technology.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and standard methods of digital communication including web conferencing and web / text, chat platforms.
  • Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy and discretion in dealing with trustees, faculty, staff, students, high-level university officials and the public.
  • Work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people.
  • Exercise independent judgment in complex, new, and / or stressful situations.
  • Manage multiple, concurrent projects, and meet strict deadlines.
  • Adaptability, flexibility and a willingness to work in a changing environment.
  • Ability to work regular business hours Monday - Friday, as well as occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to travel occasionally, including overnight stays.
