Summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic Music Program Lead responsible for developing, leading, and overseeing a dynamic and engaging music program for campers ages 7-16. This role requires a passion for music education, performance, and fostering a love for music in a summer camp setting. The Music Program Lead will design and implement programs that include singing, instrumental music, musical theater, and collaborative music-making opportunities for campers and staff. They will also supervise music program staff, ensuring a fun, inclusive, and educational experience for all skill levels.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Development and Instruction:
- Develop and implement a creative and engaging music program that empowers campers to discover and enhance musical skills through instrumental and vocal instruction.
- Design age-appropriate activities and lessons that foster skill-building, confidence, and a love of music.
- Adapt instruction for campers of all musical abilities, from beginners to experienced musicians.
- Lead rehearsals and provide musical accompaniment for camp performances, including talent shows, camp-wide sing-alongs, and musical productions.
- Enthusiastically recruit, teach, and prepare campers and staff for Glee Club and rock band performances.
- Support campers to adapt lyrics of popular songs to reflect camp life and build camp spirit.
- Incorporate various musical styles and instruments to provide a well-rounded experience.
Leadership and Staff Supervision:
- Supervise and support music program staff in managing schedules and developing activity plans.
- Provide guidance and support to ensure high-quality instruction.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and inspiring learning environment for both campers and staff.
Camper Engagement:
- Encourage campers and staff to explore their musical interests in a fun and supportive atmosphere.
- Create opportunities for collaboration and teamwork through ensemble work and group performances.
- Provide individualized support to help campers develop their musical skills and confidence.
- Develop campers to become camp song leaders who can facilitate sing-alongs and other musical experiences.
Resource Management and Budgeting:
- Maintain musical instruments and equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition.
- Manage inventory and order necessary supplies within budget constraints.
- Coordinate music program schedules in collaboration with the camp’s leadership team.
Program Evaluation and Improvement:
- Continuously refine and develop the music program based on camper interests, camp needs and emerging trends.
Qualifications and Skills
- Strong background in music education, performance, or related experience.
- Experience in teaching or directing music programs, preferably in a camp or educational setting.
- Ability to instruct a variety of musical styles and instruments.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Enthusiastic, energetic, and passionate about working with children.
- Experience directing musical performances or theatrical productions is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in music, education, or a related field preferred.
