JOB SUMMARY:
The Field Manager is responsible for scheduling, coordinating and supervising field project activities with the Project Manager ensuring progress against the schedule while maintaining owner satisfaction. Responsibilities include coordinating activities with the Owner and all Prime Contractors and Subcontractors onsite.
REPORTS TO: Project Manager
SUPERVISES: Project Engineer
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
General
- Manages all facets of day-to-day coordination and operations on the project.
- Establishes and maintain the highest degree of quality possible on each project.
- Assumes responsibility for understanding all job specifications.
- Maintains drawing/specification updates.
- Perform field investigation and constructability reviews. Opens and closes the project daily.
Scheduling
- Assists Project Manager with Master Schedule set up, updates and/or delays.
- Builds and manages schedules for smaller work events, i.e., District Holidays, breaks, or other windows of opportunity.
- Provides coordination between District and Contractors for utility shutdowns and tie-ins.
- Manages and coordinate scheduling of off-shift Contractor activities.
Cost Quality
- Understands and implements use of the issue log whenever cost or schedule may be impacted.
- Assists Project Manager with review of change orders, payment applications and certified payrolls.
- Observes and monitors Time and Material work.
- Assists in compilation, review and update of punch list.
Safety
- Monitors compliance with each Contractor’s individual site-specific Safety Program requirements.
- Investigates and documents safety incidents and ensures corrective measures are implemented.
- Acts as the point person for OSHA site visits.
- Ensures contractor badging is maintained.
Communication
- Maintains daily project report.
- Provides routine updates on job activities to Project Manager.
- Communicates with Owner on work activities/events that affect District operation.
- Coordinates new equipment training per specifications.
- Receives and signs off on attic stock.
Leadership
- Facilitates weekly foreman’s meeting, including all Primes.
- Schedules and facilitates specific pre-installation meetings, as needed.
- Assists in resolving construction problems/interaction between trades, as required.
- Acts as a liaison between Engineering and Architect to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications and schedule.
- Creates and maintains positive relationships with Owner, Architect, and Trades people.
- Motivates foremen and field personnel to meet schedule goals.
- Acts as liaison between Owner and contractors, representing the best interest of the Owner.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Accomplishes all other duties and tasks as appropriately assigned or requested.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of technical training and job-related experience.
- A minimum of eight (8) years of supervisory experience in similar facility construction technology, methods, equipment, tools and work procedures
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Clear understanding of construction scheduling and cost flows.
- Strong ability to read and comprehend drawings and specifications.
- Basic understanding of trade interactions.
- Ability to oversee and coordinate the activities of large groups.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent people skills, conflict mediation and reasoning abilities.
- A demonstrated ability to achieve key objectives.
- A demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
- Self-directed individual who is a team player.
- Excellent negotiator; experienced in contracts.
- Working knowledge of construction costs.
- Strong knowledge of typical activities encountered in K-12 construction.
