DISPATCHER
Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the shift commander, operates radio system, teletype and telephone, receives analysis and dispatches messages to radio equipped units.
Responsibilities and duties
1) Takes telephone calls on routine and emergency situations and records all pertinent information.
2) Relays information to appropriate officer in radio-equipped vehicle and dispatches officer to the scene to respond to call.
3) Records action taken, units assigned and officer times in radio log.
4) Operates teletype and remote computer terminal to send and receive information from OLETS, NCIC and all TTY messages.
5) Maintains file on all TTY messages.
6) Monitors radio calls of surrounding law enforcement agencies.
7) Enters information into the computer.
8) Maintains files of telephone numbers for schools and persons in district for Campus Police business.
9) Greets and directs and/or gives general information to the public.
10)Performs other duties as required.
Job requirements
1) Knowledge of FCC Regulations governing the operation of radio equipment.
2) Knowledge of OLETS TTY procedures and policies.
3) Knowledge of geography ofPutnamCitySchool District, location of buildings and properties.
4) Skill in operating a radio system, teletype, typewriter and computer terminal.
5) Ability to work independently and to exercise good judgment under stressful conditions.
6) Ability to obtain complete information and relay it accurately and distinctly.
7) Ability to deal effectively with officers and the public.
8) Ability to make decisions and accept responsibility for actions.

Work is routine with exception of emergency situations. Worker must be able to remember a variety of detailed items and codes and to exercise good judgment. Job requires a high degree of accuracy.

Worker routinely relates to persons in all economic and social levels and must possess the ability to extract necessary information and relay the information accurately to field units.
Working Conditions
Working conditions are generally comfortable, worker is subject to normal amounts of stress on a daily basis. Shift work includes holiday and weekend duty.
Physical Effort
Minimal physical effort is required.
Supervision
Employee does not formally supervise others, but provides staff commands to field officers. Worker is subject to direction and review by shift commander.
Education and experience
High school education or equivalent. Previous experience in the operation of two way radio, teletype and typewriters preferred. The incumbent must receive certification on the OLETS TTY System.
