Job Summary
The Medical Billing and Coding Specialist plays a crucial role in the healthcare industry by ensuring accurate billing and coding for medical services. This position requires a strong understanding of medical terminology, coding systems, and medical records.
Duties
- Prepare and submit billing data and medical claims to insurance companies.
- Ensure the patient's medical information is accurate and up to date.
- Prepare bills and invoices, and document amounts due for medical procedures and services.
- Follow-up on missed payments and resolve financial discrepancies.
- Examine patients bills for accuracy.
- Investigate denied claims.
- Help patients develop patient payment plans.
- Maintain current collection reports.
Experience
- Proficiency in ICD-9, ICD-10, DRG coding systems
- Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures
- Two or more years of experience with medical billing processes
- Familiarity with medical office operations
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in coding
